Is there a way to network with TiVo and second computer?

What do you see about my word wrap? It looks fine from here. Wrapping at about 50 characters... Unless something is slowing down your LAN you should notice the difference right away. Try timing the transfer of a 500MB file. Luck; Ken What do you see about my word wrap? It looks fine from here. Wrapping at about 50 characters... I tried to transfer a 4 Gig file and it seemed to be cruising until about the 1/4 way, then it went to 30 minutes or so, so I cancelled it. Ok, for comparision I just copied a 4,654,580 KB VOB File from one computer to my NAS and it took 5min. 28sec. Copping the same file from one 10,000rpm SATA Raptor to another one on the same computer took 1min 29sec. I just did another set using a 515,612 KB file : from one computer to my NAS and it took 37sec. from one 10,000rpm SATA Raptor to another one on the same computer took 12sec. There is something wrong with your gigabit LAN, if your 4Gig file is taking more than 6min. Luck; Ken I tried again but didn't cancel when the number, ETA, started getting bigger. It went to about 20 minutes but then went down rather quickly, so maybe it's not as bad as I thought. I'm going to time it again tonight. |

I guess I need to troubleshoot. Maybe I'll start by seeing how long it takes to copy the same file from one hard drive on the originating computer to another drive on the same computer. It took 4+ minutes to transfer a 2 Gig file from one hard drive to another on the same computer. My anti-virus software was disabled for both the Gigabit transfer and the local transfer. I wonder what's wrong and if there is any way to narrow down, maybe through software where the bottleneck(s) are. |

Your drive to drive transfers should take a little longer than my SATA Raptor to Raptor times, but not that much longer. You probably should get that corrected before worrying about transfers over your LAN. Luck; Ken |

I've got 3 entries in the controller section of the Device Manager. The primary channel has "auto detect, DMA if possible, and N/A for current transfer mode". The secondary channel has "auto detect, DMA if possible, and Ultra DMA mode 4", the other, Vis Bus Master has no advanced settings. It seems strange that the primary does not have a 'current transfer mode'. Thanks for your help. I probably need to get with a peripherals ng. And check what's going on in the other computer. Someone wrote that even if the settings in the device manager are correct there might be some changes necessary in the registry, not something I want to do on the advice of an anonymous expert. |
