I was in Currys today.
Saw this LG 32" LCD HD unit for £999 showing an HD feed. It looked
stunning and far better than other more expensive (but larger) units
showing the same feed. (I thinkthe feed was tropical fish swimming
around.)
It had an HDMI input.
I don't recall if it was a monitor only, or tuner included.

I'd like to have seen some"reglar" off-air TV on it.

And what would that have shown?, the poor compressed quality of UK
DTV?......

There appears to be a number of HD demo programs being transmitted from the
Astra satellites, which I've seen being (impressively) demonstrated at my
local Eurosat aerial wholesaler.

My point was that tropical fish in a tank doesn't have much fast
action, thus probably shows this HD monitor/TV at its best.
Also, 99% of the time, I'd be viewing "reglar" off-air TV.

Me too Jim. I did audition a couple of LCDs over Christmas watching normal
Freeview channels and to be honest I was very impressed with the picture. I
looked at a 32 and 37 inch Tosh, model ends in 58 I think. I can find out
the model numbers if anyone is interested. Also looked at a 32 Sony Bravia.
The Tosh did a much better job with the Freeview picture than the Sony as it
showed far fewer MPEG artifacts. Both sets did do a very good job of
upscaling the picture to the HD LCD without giving it the impression of
being overly processed like you see on 100Hz sets.

Anyway, my reasons for looking at Freeview pictures were to see how well the
sets would work when being used for normal tele watching. At the moment
there is no way of receiving the five main channels in HD so I want a tele
that will do a good job with SD pictures.

Dancers can be auditioned, so why not TVs.

I believe they use a LG HD-DVD player (£99) for demoing, not sure how much
material there is.

Cheers
