Twin tuner freeview box

If I may ask the advice of people more informed than myself.

As I understand it, to watch both a digital channel and record one at the
same time requires a freeview box with two tuners, so assuming this is
correct does anyone know if there are any twin tuner boxes for sale for a
reasonable amount, (say under £80) or would I have to spend £150+ on one of
the boxes with the built in HD's.

Thanks in advance

Stephen

If you are planning to record to VCR or DVD why not just buy 2 tuners
which you could certainly get for £80

Technically it should be possible to view one channel and record another
with only one tuner, but only if both channels are on the same Mux.
Since this is likely to create user confusion, the facility is not
usually offered (and never in a standard STB, as far as I know).

Not aware of any. It would be an odd thing to offer, since a user with
such a requirement would be a prime candidate for a PVR (a far superior
solution).

Perhaps what you want is two cheap Freeview STBs?

Obviously not - in a simple STB, you'd still need 2 decoders anyway. I
was thinking of PVRs, where the recorded bitstream just gets written to
the disk without being decoded first.

D'oh!

*Different* ones so you don't muck up the recording by changing
channel. Or put the VCR's one in a cupboard where it can't see the
remote.

If you've already got a recorder, just buy two cheap STBs (but different, so
the remotes don't interfere).

That's what I do.

Seem like it is more profitable (for them) if you buy 2 boxes.

I believe its called a cartel.
