After a search of Astra2 I found 6 satellite channels broadcasting
Channel4. Are there any differences in these, and why so many?

Regional variations to match the ITV regions from an advertiser's
perspective. I'm not aware of any other regional differecnes.

C4 Advertising regions, you will get one of the six mapped to 104 (or 151)
depending where you live.

London:

South and East: (covers the Anglia, Meridian, HTV West, and Westcountry ITV
areas)

Midlands: Central (and I think HTV Wales)

North: Granada, Yorkshire, Tyne Tees, Border

Scotland: STV and Grampian (and perhaps Border's Scottish parts?)

Ulster:

No differences in programming (except I think some Scottish or NI schools progs ?)
