coax input broke off HDTV

I've got a Panasonic 53" HDTV that has the coax input missing. I
wanted to buy an HDTV receiver till I found out it needs the coax input
on the tv.

So, do all recievers, tuners, antennas need that coax input on the tv?
Is there anyway I can fix it myself? I checked at an appliance shop
and they can't fix it in my home but would need to cart it out for at
least $200.

Do satellite dish setups use the coax input?

You have to clarify what you mean by TV Coax Input.....

There are 3 types of coax cables that may be used on an HDTV:

1) Single Coax Composite Analog SD Video Input port

2) Triple Coax Component Analog HD Video Input Port

3) Single Coax Digital Audio Output port

What exact Make/Model HDTV set do you have??

I have a Panasonic 53" HDTV it's really HD ready. The coax input says
antenna by it.
It's the PT 53x54. Here it is on Amazon:

In a later message you clarified that you're talking about the antenna
input. Antennas use it of course, but separate HD tuners don't; they
have their own. You'd connect the tuner to the TV with component, DVI
or HDMI cables, depending on what your TV and the tuner have.

If the TV had a digital tuner built in, it would be worthwhile to fix
the antenna jack. Apparently it has only an analog tuner. Chances
are that whatever digital tuner you buy will also have an analog
tuner, but even if it doesn't you can use any VCR as an analog tuner,
connecting it to the TV using the A/V (composite + audio) jacks.

As for fixing it yourself, if you're unsure I'd advise against it.
Are you handy with tools? Do you know how to solder? Can you
generally reassemble what you take apart and leave it no worse than
when you started? Are there parts left over? OK, that happens to all
of us. In fact there's a saying that if you take something apart and
put it back together often enough, eventually you will have two of
them.

I just reviewed your HDTV on the Amazon site...

With all the HDTV inputs on the back of set.... THere should be a
work-a-round recabling possibility...

The input port you identify is a RF antenna or Cable TV port
to feed your NTSC (Analog) tuner for SD Programing... Yes?

Amazon says you have to rear RF ports for analog... A VHF & UHF.

If you have two ports as Amazon Tech specs say... Can you screw

the 'F' coax connector into 1 or the other???? There a two!

THe other option to feed the NTSC TV tuner is to run a 2nd line..
off your Cable Set top box that is Composite or S-Video
and run that to a 2nd Aux Input port on the back of the TV set.

THis will not fix picture in picture... but will give you
an Analog TV signal for channels 2-99...

By the way what digital Tuners (Cable or ATSC external) do
you have functional now...

Do you watch TV from cable, Antenna, or both..

I'm guessing that you watch SD Analog TV with Cable wire
plugged into the Antenna Coax/RF port...
and you might not have a digital tuner at this point in time.

So I could get a DVD/VCR combo, hook it up through the s video, and
hook up an antenna through the DVD/VCR and I'd get the local channels?

I believe external Digital ATSC tuners DO NOT include an analog TV
tuner.

I've got nothing. I get only fuzz on the tv. I'm not using anything
at the moment for reception. I want to hook up a uhf/vhf/hd antenna
from Radio Shack, but it will only connect to coax.

I do not see those at all. I just have HDMI, 3 S-video inputs and 2
sets of high-definition/progressive-scan component-video inputs.

Let's now define your TV situation...... Have an HDTV with bad
Analog
RF (radio frequency) input port but have an Analog tuner in HDTV
set.
You have no digital tuner yet which is needed to pickup SD or HD
Programs.
THe bad RF port also prevents viewing channels 2-99 on cable TV too.

A comment on antennas... There is NO such thing as a HD TV antenna.
Antenna come in two flavors, really 3: VHF... UHF... Combo UHF-VHF.
VHF-Lo is TV channels 2 thru 6
VHF-Hi is Tv channels 7 thru 13
UHF is channels 14 thru 59

Most digital SDef/HDef programs are on UHF... and a good UHF antenna
cover channels 7 thru 13 OK....
A good UHF antenna is a Channel Master 3021 4 bay bow tie for $25...
Reaches up to 40 miles or a little more..... This flat antenna
can be set up in an attic or closet IF home has no metal siding..

I hope you have tried Entering your ZIP Code (5 or 9 nos) only at

http://www.antennaweb.org to verify the available digital SD or
HD TV stations and channels & direction & distance in your area....

To at least get some HD on the screen... AntennaWeb site tells you
what available... Read the info it tables under DIGITAL only.

To get your TV running under Digital SD & HD only:
Buy the $80 Radio Shack digital tuner or the Walmart $120 dig tuner.
THese tuners will not 'FIND' Analog nor QAM Cable Channels.
Buy a $25 Channel Master 3021 4 bay bow tie UHF antenna. It's flat..
Buy 50' of RG-6 antenna cable with the screw type F connect ends.
Buy your component (3 conductor) video cable...
Buy your 2 conductor red/White audio cable....

And you're all set to enjoy Std Def & High Def digital TV ....

i Amazon says you have to rear RF ports for analog... A VHF & UHF.

sets of high-definition/progressive-scan component-video inputs.

The instruction manual that comes with the set, downloadable from the
amazon web page you gave us, tells two ways to connect digital tuners
(on pages 8 and 9, using component or HDMI cables, respectively).

The manual tells how to connect an antenna on page 5. For a cable box,
instructions are on page 7.
