E4 causing STB to crash..

-snip- But politicians who want to be elected by viewers will make damn sure the boxes work transparently come analogue switch-off. Or, since it won't have occurred to them in time, they will postpone switch-off. And the boxes will not only have to work transparently, they'll have to work almost glitch-free -- and cost next to nothing. I've always figured that a switch-off date of 2012 is wildly optimistic in a market that's still selling VCRs and sub-£100 analogue-only tellys. (The latter, of course, will continue working with "only" another £40 or £50 -- each -- for a crash-prone bit of kit....oh, and probably a new aerial, too...) -- Cheers, Harvey |

I bought a Sony IDTV with the intention of getting an aerial upgrade then dumping NTL, but I'm wondering if Freeview is worth the hassle!! Reading all the problems with Freeview and set top boxes and IDTV, I'm a simple guy, and all this talk of LCNs, MUXs,rescanning, disapearing channels, setting the news channels up by hand...!? It does make you wonder how everyone - particularly old people, will manage when when analogue TV is switched off. Indeed! I know of four people who I have to visit to re-scan their DTT boxes every time there is some sort of change. Three are pensioners and the other is highly intelligent but completely uninterested in technology (but enjoys the odd Freeview channel). -- MESSAGE ENDS. John Porcella |

Sorry, but I do not understand how some retailers selling VCRs can delay analogue TV switch off? People buying at the cheap end of the market who continue to be sold kit with analogue tuners -- TVs and VCRs alike -- will, I think, wind up forming a fairly large block of voters. And they'll blame the government when switch-off makes their fairly-recently-purchased kit redundant (unless they stump up for an add-on box and aerial which -- given the cheapness of TVs and VCRs -- could wind up costing as much as the kit they've bought within the last 4 or 5 years before switch-off.) -- Cheers, Harvey |
