Decent multi SCART?

Hi,

I am looking for a decent multi-scart adapter. Needs to have a minimum
of 3 inputs. I need one that is fully wired and RGB compatible. Does
anyone have suggestions where to find them for a reasonable price?
Argos seem to have some but they don't say whether they are full-wired
or not and maplins just seem rather expensive!

Thanks

Places like B&Q and Homebase have this sort of stuff nowadays too, though
I should think your chances of obtaining meaningful and accurate
technical information from any shop would be pretty slim.

You might try a computer fair if there is one within range of you, as
there is usually somebody selling AV stuff, and the vendors generally
know more about it than shop assistants.

Rod.

I've got a cheap £10 Argos adaptor here.

Not the most fancy device in the world, but I have DVD Player/PVR/PS2
plugged in, all using RGB, and all do widescreen switching.

The only slight problem is the cable from the adaptor to the TV is rather on
the short side, and doesn't make it from the back of my Sony Wega to the
front.

Beware the very cheap ones, they tend to just have all the signals
shorted together and are useless. Manually-switched ones probably
won't be too bad, but are obviously a bit of a pain to use. Automatic
ones are expensive, but getting cheaper.

This automatic one from Maplin seems pretty cheap to me at 40 quid :-

ANyone got any experience of this? A customer review says it seems to
muffle sound - seems a bit odd!

That looks to me like one of the really crummy unswitched ones I was
talking about...

Cheers,

Colin.

Would this help me? At the moment I have to turn off my Freeview box
(Toppy) to watch a DVD from my DVD player. Also means I can't watch a
DVD if I want Toppy to record something. Same applies to VCR.

Sounds like you're using an unswitched SCART "combiner"? If so, a
proper switched one (automatic or manual) should sort you out.

With a bit of thought though, you might be able to improve the
situation a lot without buying anything extra. The Toppy has two
scarts, so you can at-least daisy-chain the DVD player off it and they
should both live happily together. Depending on how many scarts all
the boxes have, you might be able to get the VCR in there too, and
dump the old "combiner".

Cheers,

Colin.

My local branch of WH Smith was doing manually switched boxes for £4.99.
Don't know if they were any good or not. Thay may have sold out since then.
