College football in HDTV on CBS????

Hi All,

I poke around CBS' web site and can't find any indication about CBS
broadcasting college football in HD this season.

Does anyone know it they're only broadcasting NFL in HD this year?

(If so, thank goodness for ESPNHD and HDNET.)

TIA,
Bob

I'm wondering if they didn't do it yet because their equipment was at US Open.
Guess we'll find out with next week's SEC game.

According to Ken H at AVSforum (who talks to the guys at CBS from time to
time):

At this moment, CBS is still attempting to arrange sponsorship for SEC
college football games in HDTV this year. No odds were given, but there is
some hope. At best, we won't see anything until after US Open Tennis, at
worst we won't see anything this year.

How much are the cameras? Shouldn't they be going down in price over
time? On SNF and MNF, the skycam and the blimpcam are not HDTV but they
seem to be converting it to widescreen from a standard 4:3 camera?

I realize there's more than cameras, such as replay machines,
transmission equipment (sat uplink), etc. All making up a truck.

I hear ABC and ESPN has one HDTV camera between them to share. Could
that be right? I know they're both owned by ABC. If the SNF and MNF
games are on opposite sides of the country in a given week, I guess
we'll know if they only have one camera between them.

....from CBS Sports

For the third consecutive year CBS Sports will present coverage of the
primary SEC on CBS college football game in high definition television
beginning on Saturday, Sept. 13 (3:30-7:00 PM, ET) when No. 25-ranked South
Carolina takes on No. 8-ranked Georgia. Verne Lundquist and Todd
