Sky's New Menu

I heard that Sky were launching a new Menu in the autumn.

Mine is now Light Blue rather than Dark Blue but I notice no other
obvious difference; am I missing something?

I do not now have any Sky subscription and only enjoy the freesat
channels.

Ohter diffeence, go into Parental Controls, and now you can completely
remove the adult channels from the EPG.

Sky got fed up with the colour. :-)

Waste of time really, they should concentrate on lowering their prices.

It would be nice if I could remove any channel I want.
After all, I pay for the thing, I should be allowed to remove what I
want.

The broadcasters' argument might be that each channel pays between 10,000 and
70,000 UKP to be carried on Sky's EPG, therefore they'd want maximum exposure ?

Maybe so, but some channels I do not subscibe to, so it don't matter how
much exposure these channels get the chance of me watching them is
pretty low.
As i said, I pay for the service, so why can't I have what channels I
want on the Epg? after all, most Freeview boxes will allow you to erase
channels.

Same here, but try telling that to Medja types.

That's the difference between an 'open' digital platform, and Rupert's closed
(but highly successful) system.

True, very true. I think Sky may regret allowing people to choose mixes. =
=20
Almost everyone I know that have Sky have now knocked off a few mixes.=20
so they may get new customers, but getting more out of their old=20
customers is not going to work. Ok, you will get some silly person who=20
is going to pay =A340 or what ever it is for the whole package. I gone=20
down to 4 mixes. A mate of mine whent to tow mixes and that shocked me,=20

is getting fed up of all the repeats.

I've got the new menu, but only on one of my two stb's - a Grundig
which is older than my Panasonic - I wonder if this will be upgraded
or not?

so they may get new customers, but getting more out of their old
customers is not going to work.

Except that even for 2 mixes, it's still more than you paid five years ago
for the whole chuffin' lot apart from Sport and Movies*. So it's just an
acceptance that they have to start offering something at a lower price to
stop the whole world migrating to Freeview.

(* - that's a rough, and possibly inaccurate calculation, but I'm sure I
started on about a tenner a month in about 1999?)
