Newbie - Query
Hello Everyone,
I'm looking at buying a digibox to get Freesat - presently, I only have Freeview. I live in a council multi-storey block with communal analogue and SKY aerials ( both recently upgraded to boost Freeview reception) . If I get a digibox + up to date viewing card, is it just a case of plugging in, tuning in and watching? Or, must I pay for a package which includes installing a dish, connection, etc? Thanks in advance for all advice. Bill |
You can buy a digibox 2nd hand, on ebay (take your chances!), or from
www.dcsat.com, 2nd hand limited guarantee. Assuming you've got communal satellite (via multiswitches), then just connect this to the existing tv wallpoint. If only a uhf tv socket, replace with f type (=A33 from Wickes, etc). In theory, you need a low-loss satellite coax connecting cable, but a "standard" tv lead should suffice over short distances (up to 10 feet). To simultaneously watch both Sky and terrestrial (analogue and/or digital), you'll need a "splitter" type wallplate, which is more expensive (and harder to get). Don't use a "tv splitter" from DIY stores, it's useless for satellite. To get a Freesat card, phone Sky, they charge =A320 (i think!). |

Bill I'm not sure how you would upgrade SKY system to boost Freeview (or even Freesat) reception, but leaving that aside.. ... as long as you have a SKY signal feed to your flat, all you need is a Digibox to receive all the Free to Air channels, and if you add a Freesat card you will additionally receive ITV1, ITV2, CH4 & CH5. You don't need package from SKY to receive FTA & FTV channels. As a cheap Freeview box doesn't cost much more than the GBP20 that you will pay for the card you might consider getting both systems. You will then get some additional channels free like E4. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |

I don't think he is referring to SKY Plus. Nor do I, he said digibox + When I read that, I see Sky (digibox) +! You have any other sensible definition? |
"If I get a digibox + up to date viewing card" is short for "If I get a digibox and an up to date viewing card". Thats the way I read it too. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |
