Sky News not on analogue surely?

One for Mark Carver.

When tuning the video recorder I find Sky News on analogue Ch 54.
(confident no DTT receiver turned on)
I'm in Bournemouth and the signal is weak in comparision to the main
transmissions from Rowridge.

Am I picking up some relay? I didn't think Sky News formed part of the
analogue bouquet, but maybe I'm behind the times.

Doesn't Ch 4 and Ch 5 use Sky News for its news content?

You're picking up analogue Isle of Wight TV station, Solent TV.

It's a local TV service carried from Rowridge on UHF ch 54, they use Sky News
as their sustaining service when not on air.

Up till about a year or so ago, Channel M, an RSL station located at Salford
University (CH 48), re-broadcast SKY News when it wasn't transmitting its
own programmes.

http://www.channelm.salford.ac.uk/

It now transmits Euro News instead, I don't know why it changed, I suppose
it was for contractual reasons.

I suppose these analogue RSL's must be living on borrowed time,
But I wonder if a formal switch-off date has been set, and wouldn't it be
ironic if, for a while, they were the only stations an analogue receiver
could pick up?

Solent & Channel M will be joining Sky next year
