plugging digibox into phoneline
Sky have been hounding us for a few months to plug our sky box into the
phoneline or we will end up paying two full subs for multiroom. We finally got round to buying the cable and plugged it in. Just curious as to what they gain from this? What is the point of having the phoneline connected? We don't use the chargeable interactive services at all. |

Any though's on how could they ensure both boxes are at the same address? I would imagine the only way of ensuring someone is not fiddling the subs and crossing phonelines to a neighbour is to actually visit the premises, something which would prove difficult to enter as they would have no legal right of entry I would imagine. I really do not think someone would go as far to trail a phoneline to the neighbours though as they cannot guarantee the neighbour would not use it for phonecalls aswell. |

But without the phone requirement you would be able to share with anyone, near or far. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. It's partly to "encourage" you to use the various interactive services,
so Sky can collect more money (Sky installation is heavily subsidised, so for them to make a profit you have to get more expensive packages or use interactive). The box does dometimes make a random call, to check the phone line's connected. I've also heard it rumoured that the box collects viewing information and sends it back to Sky. Possibly, who knows, has anyone put a breakout box on one of these "calls"? |

Sky have a viewing panel of several thousand households, who have a special Sky box that does this. Ordinary ones dont. Its always possible that the rumour has originated from such a source. -- Tumbleweed email replies not necessary but to contact use; tumbleweednews at hotmail dot com |
