Parents have been customers for 14 years..... not happy
Hi all.. hope someone can help.
My parents were over at mine the other day and say my sky+ box.. they were hooked, and want one too. I presume you all know where this is going now.... Now they have been with sky since 1991. always on the full package of sports and movies. My mother called them last night to ask if they could get a skyplus box too. "only if you give us £259" was the response. But we have been with you for all this time, and you are giving them to new customers for £99.... surely as a loyal customer I should have one for that too.....?? she said.. they said no till she said she wanted to cancel her subscription..then they magically could match it at £99. No she said.. I want it free, as I have been such a good customer.... they offered a reconditioned one at £50 (is this guaranteed does anyone know?) anyway my mother said no, cancel it, and has now given a months notice.... My parents WILL call back to reinstate it in a week or two as my old man cant live without his football. BUT are they likely to get a sky+ box for free if they do cancel their subscription? thanks. Then they were quite happy to accept £99. They then offered a reconditioned one for £50, and I asked the group if this would be guaranteed. Do you always buy everyting at the 'offered price'? If you do, then perhaps you should reconsider your purchases. I have re-read my post.... certainly nothing wrong with it. Thanks for your time in responding. Charlie |

That would have been for a brand new box then, from what you say below. The £99 offer to new subscribers is for a reconditioned box. She was right to threaten to cancel, but blew everything when she went through with it. No she said.. I want it free, as I have been such a good customer.... they offered a reconditioned one at £50 (is this guaranteed does anyone know?) For 3 months. anyway my mother said no, cancel it, and has now given a months notice.... My parents WILL call back to reinstate it in a week or two as my old man cant live without his football. BUT are they likely to get a sky+ box for free if they do cancel their subscription? No. Your mother is very greedy! Hardware is not free, and both offers (new for £99, 2nd hand for £50) are much better offers than those for the new customers. So her loyalty was rewarded in the end, but that still wasn't enough for her! Your mother HAS already cancelled her subscription, from what you say, and blown away the (very good) £99/£50 offers. Game over. She is now back to square one (£259 for Sky+). All she can do is phone back and say she has changed her mind and doesn't want to cancel - that would get the viewing back, with the ordinary digibox. I'd be astonished if the lower prices would be offered to her again, because the only way to get them is to threaten to cancel. Second time around they know she is crying wolf. HTH Cool, thanks Mike. Charlie If you take a look at the Sky+ Forum on Digitial Spy; http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...splay.php?f=35 this has been discussed several times on what people have been offered and the "new" box for £99 or a "recon" box for £50 seems to be the norm. No one has been offered a free box. Personally, I'm the same. I've been with Sky since 1991, always on the top package, so I would automatically consider myself a loyal customer and would expect something more than the usual 'as advertised price' .. but whilst I know I'd have to jump through hoops and haggle a bit to get a reduction, I wouldn't personally expect it for nothing. If I wanted it that badly I'd be happy to pay £99 for it :) -- Nige -- Nige |

do they use normal ide hard disks? Yes. if so can you put them in a pc to get the transport stream for the unencrypted channels? (bbc, etc). No. or have lots of them to use like blank videos in the sky+ and just keep swapping them round when they get full? You could but I doubt that many would want the inconvenience. i know the encrypted stuff wouldn't work outside the sky+, but is there any time limit on how long you can keep recordings? would they still play 10 years from now? Surely not. Sky make changes to the software, encryption and viewing cards from time to time and this often results in old recordings being rendered useless. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
