Why does DTV bother pushing HD-DVR units?
Why is DTV on this big kick that has them slashing prices in 1/2 and
offering deals to new and existing customers. These units are going to be obsolete in a few months (hopefully!) with the forthcoming MPEG-4 upgrade. I would be rather irked to find this info out after the fact. Then again, if you're in a contract, what can you do? |

If you had a warehouse full of soon-to-be-obsolete product, wouldn't you be desperate to get as much out of them as possible by moving them as soon as possible, and freeing up warehouse space to stock up on the new product that will have a buying spike soon? -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Phil Howard KA9WGN | http://linuxhomepage.com/ http://ham.org/ | | (first name) at ipal.net | http://phil.ipal.org/ http://ka9wgn.ham.org/ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Then again, if you're in a contract, what can you do? They don't have to b e obsolete. As I understand it, MPEG-4 is going to be for local channels. Those of us who already get those OTA and are happy with the signal will have no reason to switch. I suppose other HD content will eventually become available in MPEG-4 and I am guessing DTV will have to offer an upgrade path. -- Robert B.
