DOG's solution suggestion
Nobody seems to like DOG's including myself. The only people who do
seem to like them are the broadcasters. Why don't "they" set up the system to use one of those underused coloured buttons (maybe the green one) to toggle the display of the DOG's. That way if you are wondering what channel you are on, you press the green button thus displaying the DOG. Pressing the button again will turn the DOG off. That way everybody is happy. |

I already have a button that will tell me what channel I'm watching - it's marked "info"! That way everybody is happy. Not the BBC - they don't watch you to switch the DOG off at any time. btw, the official answer for why this isn't done is because the application required to do this wouldn't start-up quickly enough to show the DOG to someone who was channel hopping. Why this matters when the STB shows you the channel name as you flick between channels is beyond me, but then, given this, why do you need a DOG anyway? Who knows how their minds actually work. I still reckon they are like mindless teenage graffiti artists, tagging everything they see. Cheers, David. |

Are the DOGs shown during advert breaks if not why not? Back when five were still Channel 5, they had a nice square DOG in the top-left corner, but not during advert breaks. When I wrote to congratulate them about their branding and the DOG, I enquired about this. They informed me in a very pleasant reply that, unfortunately, they didn't have the facilities to generate the graphic over their regionally distributed adverts. The brand reinforcement remained, however, with their distinctive five-stripe logo appearing between each advert. As for your question, why on earth are you asking me? Go and watch ITV2, for instance, and find out for yourself. TTB |

Why do the DOG brigade always go into Willy Wonka mode ("Stop mumbling, I can't understand a word you're saying!") whenever someone dares to challenge their pathetic ranting? Is it because they have absolutely no way to argue against the reality that has made broadcasters worldwide decide to employ DOGs on their programmes for years, reasons for which have been outlined on these forums many times before only to be persistently ignored rather than addressed? I now have a Tivo which records everything I want to watch and when I have some time to watch the TV there's a whole raft of programmes waiting for me. I know I want to watch them all so I simply select the one that appeals most at the time or fits in with the amount of time I have. TTB With the uptake of PVRs of all types, more and more people will watch what they wish to watch when they wish to watch it AND skip the ads at the same time. If you surf the channels be it DTT or other multi channel systems the odds are you will either miss the start of a prog you wished to see or not get to a prog you wished to see IF you knew it was on. Much better to look through Digiguide or some other multi channel listings and work out whats on when. ted |

TTB Sorry it was not ment "for you" more of a retorical question, as I thought that ads were not shown with DOGs BUT having just had a look at ITV2 (no sound) it would seem that they do have ads, ho hum (not that I need another reason not to watch it) The current prog Trisha has an ITV2 DOG and a second one that overlaps it so even the DOG is/are c£$p |

Yes. I don't believe you. Reality does not depend on belief. If it is true, It is, what would be the point 'flicking through' channels I can tell are of no interest by reading? They will not become interesting just because I flick to them. I suspect you are in the minority. "Believe", "suspect", do you ever let facts trouble your mind. -- Ian G8ILZ |

Ha, but you forget that the powers that be are still back in the 60's when one had to get up and cross the room to change channel. So once it was on ITV it stayed there all evening. -- Regards Dave Saville NB Remove no-spam- for good email address |
