Lost all Sky+ recordings!!!! :(
Hi
My Sky+ box (version 1, upgraded with 250GB drive) froze up on me tonight - normal (live) programmes worked fine, but was unable to play any of my recorder ones. I tried a soft reboot - power off/power on, but that didn't change things. So I then unplugged it and powered it back on again. When it came back up, my Sky+ planner says I have no programmes!!! :( I tried the "Sky+ Planner Rebuild" (from the installer setup menu), but that didn't do anything - does 1-2 seconds of work, doesn't reboot the box (as it says it will), and nothing changes in my Sky+ planner... Any ideas how I can get my recordings back? Unlikely, I know, but worth asking... Thanks Alex |
I've just had a similar problem. Switched on the box 1st thing to playback
something & I got soiund and no picture. Tried to do a planner rebuild, got the Houskeeping page & then it froze. Unplugged the box for a few seconds & let it re-boot, now I have no recordings & it will not let me record - says there is a fault & ring sky. When I check the signal strength, all the boxes for input 2 are blank. Has anyone got any ideas before I contact $ky? Thanks. "Alex" wrote in message ... When I check the signal strength, all the boxes for input 2 are blank. The drive is faulty. I suspect the OP has the same problem. In my case I don't think the drive is dead.
I bit the bullet and did a full system reset, and that worked (i.e. the task completed). However I could not record or use live pause - upon further investigation I now discovered that my 2nd satellite receiver is dead (tried swapping the cables from the LNB and channel 1 is always full signal, channel 2 is showing nothing). Unless anyone can prove the 2nd channel ceases to work if the HD is dead? I guess I'll prove that when I remove the disk and check it on my PC... Alex "Jomtien" wrote in message ... No signal on Input 2 is always a sign of a faulty hard drive. If it was the
cable or LNB the problem would swap around when you swapped the cables. Janice "Alex" wrote in message ... In my case I don't think the drive is dead. I'll let you all know when I swap the drive out with the original 40GB
one... It could also just be a faulty Input 2, though, right? ;) Alexis "Janice" wrote in message ... No signal on Input 2 is always a sign of a faulty hard drive. I don't think so I have replace hundreds of Sky+ hard drives through my job
and they all have the same tell tale sign no second input, It is the only time I have ever seen no second input I don`t know of any other fault that gives it if you have tried and changed the IF cables over and its the same "Alex" wrote in message ... You were both right! Swapped the HD out with the original 40GB one, and
everything is fine now. Strangely enough the 250GB HD is showing up as ok on my PC - did a low-level format and a full scan of the disk and found no problems. Weird... I'll try it in my Sky+ box again some time this weekend, see if it changes its mind! Thanks Alex "fast_bri" wrote in message ... No signal on Input 2 is always a sign of a faulty hard drive. If it was the cable or LNB the problem would swap around when you swapped the cables. Janice As Jomtien pointed out, don't forget that the second tuner is a distinct possibility. The pair of 'ZIF" tuners fitted to the Pace Ver 1 boxes is the same as fitted in the 2500 series Digiboxes. These tuners are notoriously unreliable. Fortunately, from an engineers perspective, they are amongst the easiest PCB mounted tuner in the industry to replace. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |
