I've never checked the frequency response of the TV channels' audio
channels, but all the digital radio stations are lowpass filtered
with a cutoff frequency of around 15.5 kHz, and I wouldn't be
surprised if the TV channels were also.

As is FM radio, prat.

Where did I say that FM radio wasn't lowpass filtered down to about
15 kHz? I didn't.

Now let me see. What's your name again?

So it's not unreasonable that when you make such a comment about
digital radio and TV you are excluding your beloved FM?

Yes, it is unreasonable, because the quality of sound of FM does not
depend on FM having a wider audio bandwidth than DAB.

Just telling the truth.

How old are you, Dave?

I have not intention of paying over £100

You can get a set for around half that price.

I wouldn't mind a small DAB radio and cost isn't really a issue but
they all look ugly and old-fashioned.
Modern hi-tech gadget and they make it look like something from the
1960s. Why is that?

There is the "Bug" or whatever it's called. The one that was designed
by Wayne Hemingway.

Stewart

Took a look at that and its too whacky for me.
Yesterday did see £50 Bush DAB in Netto. Didn't look too bad but was far
too big, hardly portable.

Simply put, DAB does sound significantly worse than FM, so if you're
happy with the stations that you listen to at the moment then there's no
point in getting DAB. Also, the audio quality of the radio stations on
the digital TV platforms are also higher than they are on DAB because
the bit rates they use are higher, and it's the bit rate that is the
main determinant of audio quality. So, as you're on a digital TV
newsgroup I assume you've got digital TV of one variety or another, so
you'd be better off connecting the output of a digital TV set-top box to
your hi-fi system, because that'll sound better than DAB. To see what's

Digital satellite is the best digital TV platform both in terms of audio
quality and choice of stations.

Think if you read OldBill's posts he was considering a portable. Don't
think there is a FreeView portable.

Then I'd advise him to spend his money on a better FM portable. Let's
face it, for the money you have to spend on a DrAB radio you can get a
****hot FM portable.

I do listen to radio via Freeview and Sky as the FM reception is poor
here since my big FM aerial fell off the roof. Its not very convenient
though in the bathroom, although there are spare cables under the bath
that I could wire a speaker to; which could also be used as a tannoy for
bathroom hoggers :-)
