Philips (OnDigital) Box - Lock Up
Lo folks,
Got an old OD box that's started to lock up when trying to change channels, either from the remote or the box itself. Its been a few years (I guess) since it was "fit for purpose" but I don't want to change it if I can avoid it as its got a TUTV card in it (so extra cost if I change). Is this a known problem with the old Philips OD boxes? Is there anyway to fix it? (I guess there's no more software updates for it?). Or is it time to buy a new dedicated Freeview box? tia Ginga |

The Phillips always were the slowest of the group. I would get an upgrade , the new boxes are streets ahead of the old ones. I have one of the last On Digital PACE boxes, which was the quickest, yet its still a sluggard next to any of the new el cheapo boxes... tia Ginga Dave, |

New box sounds favourite, but all the reviews I've read over cheapo boxes are confusing (conflicting reviews, etc). Two probs not answered are that no new "cheapo" boxes have an RF modulator built in and also, not all boxes have a TUTV card slot. So, confusion reigns here!!! cheers again Ginga |

I have two, one for the sitting room and one my bedroom and both rarely display this problem. Is this a known problem with the old Philips OD boxes? Not based on both of mine. I wonder if you have too much analogue signal coming through which is locking it up. Try fitting a 6db attenuator. Is there anyway to fix it? (I guess there's no more software updates for it?). Or is it time to buy a new dedicated Freeview box? Probably the latter, or move to Sky. -- MESSAGE ENDS. John Porcella |
