Analogue switch - 2008 - official
I was wandering through the Dixons store in Fforestfach, Swansea
earlier today and overheard a customer asking one of the sales assistants about purchasing a TV set. She informed him that a digital TV was the TV to buy because analogue broadcasts were going to stop in 2008. That's it then - 2008 it is. |

If they say "Yes" this year then it will be 2008 for you. However, I doubt they will make a decision, this year or next or next or next. Dave |
And Lo, it came to pass that Peter entered the sacred hall of the God Dixon
in the city of Fforestfach. And Verily, Tracy the sales assistant said unto him 'Yea, though thou hast taken an analogue telly unto thine family and thou hast watched 'Question of Sport' without hindrance, know now that thine telly will not worketh after 2008'. And thus, Peter did sayest unto the brethren what Tracy had sayest unto him, and the brethren did sayest unto him, '********', for Tracy knowest nothing. "Peter" wrote in message ... She informed him that a digital TV was the TV to buy because analogue broadcasts were going to stop in 2008. That's it then - 2008 it is. OFCOM have announced that analogue broadcasts will end in three regions in 2008. The first to switch-off will be the Border TV region, followed by the Westcountry region, and then Wales. The exact dates have not been announced, only the order of switch-offs. Other regions follow in 2009/10/11, with London being the very last to go in 2012. Unless there's a government intervention, that's about as official as it gets, and as far as Wales is concerned, yes, 2008 it is. So for once, Dixons has a clued-up sales assistant, who gave correct information in respect of the local region. I wonder if Dixons, and indeed all other retailers, should now be putting warning stickers on analogue-only gear. |

I bet the BT broadband advert was filmed in a Dixons store, they left out the part were the 'sales assistant' suggested the best camera was the one without a zoom lens, as it's easier to operate (not to mention far more profitable for Dixons). :~(( Not that I window-shop in Dixons that often... |
