Freeview STBs - what does "interactive" actually mean

If I buy a box wich is "non-interactive", what does that mean?

no red button?
no Xtraview?
no ttext?

Considering the Alba STBX3 as a cheap box for our 3 "portables". is it any
good? What will I miss compared with my Daewoo SetPAL box?

Personally, there are better units out there at around the same price.

Goodmans GBD3, although you could try google to see what comes up.
The review of the Alba set is good, but it may be worth getting a different
type of box if want teletext/ceefax access

Sometimes subtitles are helpful, and in the future the 'english 1/2'feature
in which you can have 2 audio streams available to users may be prominent
with movies, offering commentary. However, for the extra fiver i'd get the
goodmans, or you want to put a bit more effort in you could use ebay; 2nd
hand ones are cheap.

My DTR1500 is quite alright, and i like it very much. It's a wee bit more on
ebay at the moment however. If more people could post suggestions here for
cheap boxes with freeview then that'd help this chap a lot I'm sure.

From personal experience i'd stay away from bush/alba and other very cheap
brands...*but* as you say the alba one gets good reviews, it's just
sometimes these cheaper companies tend to produce lesser-quality items, but
you do get what you pay for sometimes :-)

No freeview is truely interactive, like say sky is?

All you get is a few 'hidden' channels which you maywell
get anyway.

interactive means whatever they want itto mean.

What the definition of cheap? £20,£30,£40,or £50. A box that may be £70
in one store could be closer to £40 in a different store.

Interactive means slow digital text and a press red blob stuck in the
corner of your screen.

I am lucky, I can switch it off on my box.

The only good thing about interactive on Freeview is that you can press
red on some programmes and get a different view, like wimbledon.

Thanks guys. I'll give the Goodmans a go.
