OT. Philips Computers at Tesco
Asking here as many have experiece of problems with Philips TVs, DVDRs and
Videos etc. like myself. But did not realise they were into computers untill I saw a couple of packages in Tesco. Anyone have experiece of them? Are they better reliability than thier domestic consumer products? -- Regards, David Please reply to News Group. |

Anyone have experiece of them? Are they better reliability than thier domestic consumer products? Likelyhood is they're just re-badged machines from elsewhere. For example, IT guy at work had to buy a cheap PC at short notice (ie. same day). Went off to PC World with a list of manufacturers he would avoid (due to problems in the past). Came back with a branded PC (can't remember the brand) he was pleased with. When I looked at the warranty form, it had the company he most wanted to avoid on the label! No mention of that company on the box etc. So, if Philips aren't known for making PCs, I suspect it may just be a PC made for Philips using a large OEM to do so. D |

We used to sell Philips PCs many years ago, imported from The Netherlands, they may still be making them. -- For South East Brum: http://www.south-east-birmingham.tk For Free £10 credit when you get referred to TalkTalk or £5 when referred to easyMobile contact me via above site. |

... They seem to do Fujitsu quite often, and Acer (yuk) laptops... Acer have the second lowest return-rates for laptops in the world, and also in the UK too (it could be they sucked in the UK y'see ;-) I have one, they're a bit 'boring' some may say, but a centrino when it just came out was quite a lot, m travelmate 291.LCi was just under £800, and an absolute bargain. Infrared wasn't enabled in the bios, which may have caused problems for a non-computer literate user, but they are extremely good value for money, and the customer service, and their website with driver-updates, is very good. I speak as someone who has worked with computers in many respects all my education/working life, and i admit i was surprised at the good quality. With laptops there's no in-between; i advise don't buy 2nd hand though... they overrate the prices dramatically...p3 laptop, £500, might aswell get a new one! My battery lasts over 5 hours, but unless it's a travel-mate for you (har har) then as a desktop raplcement the battery life wont matter. bit OT but i thought i should mention... of all the laptops, except my csony vaio which was £2000 and worthy of that price, the acer is very good. Just research! |
