Something Strange Is Happening ..... !
Something very strange is happening....
I have 2 Nokia MediaMaster DVB 9850T set top boxes. 1 I have with me in County Durham and the other is on loan to my daughter in Carlisle. Last evening, Wednesday 25th May, I switched to ITV2 (6) and after about 30 secs the whole box was switched off. I had to unplug the unit from the mains and then plug back in for it to work again. It came back on assigned to BBC1 (1). I switched it to ITV2 again and the same thing ghappened. Reset again and switched to ITV1 (3) and the same thing happened. Leave it on BBC1 (1) and everything is ok. My daughter has just rang me to tell me that the set top box she has gone wrong. Asked her to explain what happened and she told me exactly the problem that I am having. I use a Top Up TV card but she doesn't. Closer investigation on my box. Unplugged scart lead form TV and watched channel through RF modulator. Same thing happened when switched to ITV1 (3) or ITV2 (6). Unplugged the aerial and set stays on channel with no problem but obviously no signal = no picture. Plug aerial in again and problems start again. Seems funny that 2 boxes some 50 miles apart should have the same problems on the same day. Anyone any thoughts please...... I'm baffled, so much infact that I bought a Thomson TUTV box from Argos ealier today. -- troubleinstore |

All is fine now and I've got the same box I think (it's an old On Nokia box) strange_too |

Does the box normally find subscription channels because E4 is still a
subscription channel - You may find it appears when the encryption disappears. I believe some boxes supress sub channels so they are not displayed if they cannot be decrypted. My other problem is last night i scanned for new channels with the media master located E4/e4+1 no problem, did the same with my Goodmans GB3 ,it only finds E+1 not E4 anybody any ideas by the way I'm on witer hill. myk |
Just had it happen on ITV2 again, I checking whether it was still happening.

I thought my Nokia had finally died, until I discovered it was only ITV channels that caused the problem. I have a theory. ITV have been transmitting a skeleton MHEG text service, which says "coming soon" if you try to enter it. I think they have just changed this basic service and are now transmitting something on the MHEG layer that causes Nokia 9850T boxes to crash instantly. This affects all the ITV channels only. What does anyone else think? God knows, the Nokia crashes often enough on its own without help like this! Peter -- Peter Wright |

You can change it in the menu and scan now (but you will get all the other TUTV channels), or you can wait until E4 goes unencrypted and then rescan. André Coutanche |

My other problem is still there though my media master cut out again on ITV2 half an hour ago, strange its only doing it on ITV2. myk |
My old Nokia 9850T also crashes after 30 seconds, but only on the ITV
channels. My guess was also some MHEG stuff, and seems to be confirmed, as if I change to an ITV channel, and repeatedly hit EXIT during the first 10 seconds or so, I can watch, without the box apparently switching off (display goes out too) Hope they switch it off again soon, as surely they can't be expecting to start some new ITV interactive stuff, where people like myself, with old an old box can't even watch the channel. While I'm thinking about it, is there any way on the 9850T to disable MHEG altogether? Vin. "Martin Elliff" wrote in message ... Same thing here. Coo, I was just about to buy a new STB as I thought my trusty Nokia was on the way out. Perhaps the unit has developed 'taste' and is automatically filtering out the crap on ITV. Martin.
