Improvements to wolfbane.
I use Wolfbane http://www.wolfbane.com every time I take the Caravan out to
give indication of where to point the aerial. Today I noticed two improvements on the UK digital TV reception predictor. A line giving who owns each MUX which says that C and D belong to Transco, which was a surprise to me. Also New: the transmitter OS grid references are now hyperlinked to our transmission path predictor. This is an experimental facility which might be liable to failure or other problems during its further development. In particular, the graphical output produced is currently Adobe PostScript ®, which might not be displayed correctly with certain browsers. To view the output with your browser, it will require a plug-in or helper application such as GhostView ® or Adobe Acrobat ® plus Distiller ®. Alternatively, the output can be saved as a PostScript (.PS) file for subsequent use. It is planned to make a different format available in the future. It produces garbage for me ATM, I will have to arrange for a supply of tuits, to look a the results. Its not that surprising. Transco the lot who cart gas about have another lot called Spectrasite Transco, and they own a lot of radio and comms transmission sites, so I suppose like Crown Castle and ntl they want a finger in the programme pie as well..... -- Tony Sayer |

The screen of apparent garbage does appear to be a valid PostScript file, in the sense that if I save it with a .PS extension, GhostView is very happy to open it. I can also convert it to PDF with no errors. Unfortunately, both the .PS and .PDF files display as completely blank! I definitely don't have enough tuits for this one, so I'm going to leave it to Wolfbane to take the next step ... André Coutanche |

National grid/transco bought out crown castle uk who have the licence for those muxes. Yes sorry so they did. Like that Aussie lot taking ntl off ntl's hands.. The others have started to call themselfs VT Communications instead of Merlin Communications. So I it wont be long before Crown Castle call themselfs something else. J |

My file shows: - A graph of the terrain height along the direct path between the transmitter and receiver aerials and the line of sight between them. This appears to be corrected for the earth's curvature. - A line showing the first Fresnel limit (presumably WRT the line of sight - I believe that if the terrain graph crosses the first Fresnel limit line then there will be significant diffraction losses). - The line of the diffracted signal path and a calculation of the diffraction gain (a loss of 11.9 dB in my case as there's a hill some 18 metres higher than my aerial in between). -- John Phillips |
