NTL button set..

OK so it isn't digital but I need help..

My 86 year old Aunt-in-law demanded a cable connection so that she could
watch the film channel.

Duly installed with only the average amount of aggravation however, it
turns out the this particular 86 year old is unable to find and press
the correct buttons fast enough to actually change channels.

Is there a work around? Ideally a way of selecting a 3 digit channel
from a single button.

Use the favourite channels facility (from the Guide button) to set the
channels she watches, then she can use the up/down channel control.
Bit of a job to set up but once there never forgotten (by the box.)

You could use a programmable OneForAll or similar replacement remote
control if the cable box uses standard IR and not IrDA. I have an old
OneForAll Topline 5 (URC-5550) which lets you assign a sequence of codes
to any button on the remote.

Off the top of my head, the silver Samsung ntl boxes use IR but I think
most other models don't. In which case, something like this might do the
trick:

Assuming she is using her fingers ... then it would appear to be 100%
Digital TV related ;)

Maybe buy a remote with macros ... but watch out for NTL boxes. Some
of the Pace ones are hard to control from other remotes.
How about browsing the channel list from the EPG?

Menu/At a glance and then combination of OK/Down - might be too
complex though.

OK guys. I'll try Woody's suggestion first.

My wife has been dealing with this. When she said there was no manual I
took it at face value:-)

The Pace boxes used in origital ntl: areas (i.e. not ex-Cable and
Wireless) all use IR too. (the Dimond Cable area is one such example)

Don't forget the page-up/down buttons when setting up the favorites list - saves a lot of fidddling
when shuffling channels up/down the list
