They had been GIVEN the equipment for ALL thier Tv sets to recieve digital transmissions. The rest of us will have to BUY ours, so a vote of the rest of UK would be completely different. -- Regards, David Please reply to News Group. |

98% voted to turn the analogue TV signal off: http://tinyurl.com/4s6nz As pointed out this is just within the small service area of the Ferrryside transmitter that is taking part in the DTT experiment. However AIUI BBC 2 analogue is still being transmitted, because the only version of BBC 2 available on DTT in Wales is the low budget opt-out service, BBC 2W and not the pukka network version? So in fact analogue TV has not quite been fully abandoned yet ? -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply |

Yes. quote The analogue TV signal was turned off in the first area of the UK last week after a three month trial of digital TV in Carmarthenshire, Wales, ended with 98 per cent voting to go totally digital. “When the public was asked if they wanted to keep analogue and switch the digital off, or switch the analogue off and leave the digital on, then 98 per cent said ‘leave the digital on, it’s great’,” said Paul Harfoot, head of services, Rohde & Schwarz. “It’s been a very positive trial.” /quote They had been GIVEN the equipment for ALL thier Tv sets to recieve digital transmissions. I couldn't fit "The Welsh Villages that had their analogue TV switched off a couple of weeks ago have voted for analogue to be switched-off" into the subject title line, if you know what I mean.... -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info Find the cheapest Freeview, DAB & MP3 Player Prices: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/fr..._receivers.htm http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/da...tal_radios.htm http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/mp...rs_1GB-5GB.htm http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/mp...e_capacity.htm |

... 98% voted to turn the analogue TV signal off: Well... not really! They gave the whole village a bunch of Freeview boxes at no charge and with no upper limit on the amount per household (the hotels are pleased apparently), they also received as much free support as they'd like along with free upgrades if there was reception problems. The consultants then did a survey which basically said "Would you like to keep all those boxes we gave you for FREE, or would you like us to come back and take them all away?" (amazingly 2% said yes). The result of the survey was then construed as desire for 98% to see the end of analogue. Anyway, BBC 2 Wales analogue is still operating due to the variations with 2W digital. It's a nice PR stunt, a fine piece of 21st century Keynesianism but a pretty worthless study to be honest, there are no parallels to what would happen if they attempted to transition a major city away from analogue without unlimited free boxes, support and upgrades, there was no attempt to see how the market would operate during the switch over If they're interested in recovering spectrum for some crazy 3G style dividend then recovering tiny blocks of spectrum from really low power relays in remote parts of the country is a pretty bizarre strategy (lots of free UHF channels out those parts anyway)... they need see what would happened if major sites disappeared, that's where the money is. worse than FM writes 98% voted to turn the analogue TV signal off: http://tinyurl.com/4s6nz What a load of ********!. Give people the equipment free and they'll say whatever you want them to. And I see that article was written by a man from Rohde & Schwarz who supplied the equipment. And to borrow from Mandy Rice-Davis " He would say that wouldn't he!"..... -- Tony Sayer |

I would only need one extra Freeview box to record the big 5 while watching $ky. Also scart sequence for a TV, VCR and to use a Freeview box with a $ky box and probably a DVD player/recorder. -- Dave F Flight is right |
