Saw a demo in Comet yesterday. It was filmed material on a 50" DLP rearpro set (Panasonic I think). I was somewhat underwhelmed - it had a grainy appearance and a poor off-centre response due to the rearpro screen and looked no better than the projector/screen system we have at work in the conference room. Surely a better demo would be straight HD video on a good quality HD Plasma or LCD? JPG Sounds like a combination of poor setup and grainy source material. I've seen HD displays at Wal-Mart and a proper setup with a good source can blow you away. Even with my antique (donated by a friend) TV hooked to an HD-STB the picture is sharper & cleaner than DVD. That and the price of programming isn't bad (free). Don't worry, HD will get better in the UK, once HD-DVD takes off. ;-) Andrew Cheadle Dover, DE, USA watching HD from Baltimore & Philadelphia. |

Would not trust Comet, Currys, Dixons or the like for a demo. Since 99% of the people will buy their systems from these shops, it do not look good for HDTV then. Why are you incapable of writing the word 'does'? You ALWAYS write 'do' when you should write 'does': I find it more annoying that he ALWAYS writes 'got' instead of 'have' or 'has': "I am not a fan of ABC1, but it got to be better than another ITV channel" "after all, if we got to fork out for a digital box, we should get something for our money." "Anyway, unless you got a huge room, you may as well stay with a normal CRT set" "I expect you got bad analogue then, those of us with very good analogue can tell the difference and digital is very poor." "As I said, people in this country got no guts" Very annoying. Charlie I don't know why people don't just killfile the illiterate luddite. ;-) -- Adrian |

AIUI the only devices that will give a proper HD output are the HDTV STBs in the USA and Australia (which wouldn't have anything to pick up), HD-DVD players (which haven't hit the market yet) or PCs with a DVI output. Since it's Comet we're talking about I wouldn't be all that surprised if the high definition of the picture had been lost somewhere along the way...
