I went into the Sony Centre in the Trafford Centre last week and was frankly appalled at the picture quality of all Sony plasma and LCD displays apart from one (LCD IIRC) which the salesman pointed out had a higher resolution (HD-ready, apparently...). Sony are supposed to be one of the best TV makers, and if theirs are that bad then I dread to think what the other manufacturers' displays are like. Sony are good for CRT based displays, all the plasma or LCD displays suffer from poor contrast ratio and response times. Some of the best plasma displays have a contrast ratio of 4000:1 (Pioneer), which is a fraction of the ratio of a CRT or the human eye. Some LCDs have a response of 10ms (Philips) which can still result in blurred indistinct images. Why do you think retailers like to display such products showing animation with comic book like saturated primary (or secondary) colours and negligible contrast range. -- Ian G8ILZ |

than FM wrote Sony are supposed to be one of the best TV makers, Are they? Perhaps people just believe what the manufacturers say in the advertising without questioning the claims. I have watched an expensive Sony LCD for half a day and I wasn't impressed with its performance. For the majority of programs it looked okay but for fast moving action, such as found in sport, it was painful to watch showing lag/ghosting problems associated with poor LCD response times. I'm sure that some people having bought an expensive brand fool themselves into believing it is the best they could have purchased -- Alan |

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying that if Sony (who do have a reputation for decent displays) only seems to produce crap displays then you have to wonder what a lot of the cheaper competition is going to be like, and I dread to think what Alba Group plasmas / LDCs would look like. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info Find the cheapest Freeview, DAB & MP3 Player Prices: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/fr..._receivers.htm http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/da...tal_radios.htm http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/mp...rs_1GB-5GB.htm http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/mp...e_capacity.htm |
