Where is my BBC4?

I bought an old OnDigital box from Ebay (mainly as a cheap replacement for
my failed FM tuner) but have also found it useful for the TV. However, I
don't have BBC4. My signal strength from the box seems good and all the
other channels appear to be there so I am scratching my head. Can anyone
suggest what it is likely to be?

Thanks

Mark

You realise that BBC 4 only broadcasts after 7pm ?

Otherwise are you also missing the following radio stations ? :-

Radio 5 Live Ch 75
BBC Five Live Sports Extra Ch 76
BBC 6 Music Ch 77
BBC 7 Ch 78
BBC Asian Network Ch 79

If so you are missing Mux B possibly because your aerial needs upgrading

What transmitter do you use, (or failing that what town are you in or near)?

Aha...

Yes and yes and Sandy, I think (Bedford). Looks like aerial then. If those
items are the full complement of what I am missing, I may leave it awhile.
Mainly because I don't like the thought of trying to line a new one up
properly. But if I did want to gain all those extra goodies, what kind of
aerial should I look for?

Thanks for the help

Mark

Yep, you have probably got a Group A aerial, this will only properly
respond to UHF channels 21-34 (21-37 if it is less than 8 years old)
This is the range in which BBC1/2/ITV/C4 analogue from Sandy are in.

However all the other Muxes but B are still out of band for your aerial
(they're on UHF Ch 40-46) As you're in Bedford you are very close to
Sandy Heath, so the other muxes are still being picked up by your aerial
well enough to decode, (but perhaps only just, it's all or nothing with
DTT).

To see how much signal you have for the six muxes go to:-

Menu 7 1 Press Green Enter each UHF ch number as listed on
the above link Press Red. Repeat for the other five muxes.

You will need to upgrade to a Wideband (and a fairly modest sized one,
otherwise you could overload your box and or TV with too much signal)

A local *reputable* rigger should sort you out OK.

Correction: However all the other Muxes as well as B are still out of band

Hi John

I have tried "Store Channel" several times to see if my box is just playing
hard to get. I get an amazing 64 channels. Apart from the terrestrial
channels and the radio channels (specifically radio 2 for my wife) it seems
to be a choice between bidding for junk and channels where you need some
kind of additional card. Nothing yet to tempt me into buying another 4 or 5
set top boxes. But I will look at the aerial.

I tried the muxes and got around half way strength (2.5 out of 5) for 40,
42, 43, 45, 46. I got zero for 41, 44. The aerial was fitted around 6 years
ago and I have never been able to get CH5 terrestrial (but don't think I
have suffered overly). I am not keen on the rigger solution as I have
managed to miss the reputable ones in the past. If I get a wideband aerial
and point it roughly the way my narrowband one is should I be ok?

Thanks

Mark
