Recording failures

Apologies if this has been covered before *have checked FAQ and couldn't see
it).

We just had our sky+ box for a few weeks now and have had a number of
failures of different types.

1/ Straight fails (no reason given in info)
2/ Series link fails (misses next prog, done it with wire in the blood
monday night)
3/ recording breaks up into fuzzy green sectoins and then comes back.

Is this normal behaviour or have I got a duff box?

Peter

Common enough.

Not normal. What is your signal quality reading? Does this happen on
live TV or only on recordings?

Try swapping the two LNB feeds over at the back of the box.

I'll be honest I've had $ky + for a year+ and never had a failed recording
until two weeks ago and then everything failed, only way to resolve it was a
power off, mains plug out, hold Back Up down, power back in and away you
go. That cured it !

Had there been a software update ? that wasn't quite right (as if any of
them are)

Dave

I've had a few of these lately, but not enough to seriously worry me.

2/ Series link fails (misses next prog, done it with wire in the blood

These are starting to happen with regularity now. There have been
three in the last week... it dropped the following series links:
- Wire in the blood
- Coronation street
- Location, location, location

Mrs HVB is especially unhappy about the last two.

I'm unhappy because I have to check every day to see that the series
links are still there.

I wonder if the failed series links are common to other people, given
that at least two of us had problems with Wire in the blood

3/ recording breaks up into fuzzy green sectoins and then comes back.

I've only ever had that a couple of times - notably in very high
winds. There is a tree in our front garden that can sway in front of
the dish.

Strangely enough I don't think I've had any true failures since I
re-initialised the upgraded HD I put in (did a low-leve / zero-fill format
on a PC, due to what must have been a filesystem corruption.

I've noticed two: Wire in the blood, same as you, and The Invaders.

I'm unhappy because I have to check every day to see that the series
links are still there.

I was puzzled with it, too - because the previous Invaders from the previous
week is still in the planner (prior to being copied off) and shows the
series link icon in the planner - but it was absent and didn't record from
this weekend.

Fortunately Wire in the Blood got spotted because I normally watch it almost
live, and don't keep the recordings.

I wonder if the failed series links are common to other people, given

Make that three :-(

I saw that briefly over the weekend - Sunday evening on Eurosport
(Snooker) - but it wasn't a recording, it was live footage.

Scratch that, I've had 2 or 3 failed recordings yesterday / day before
yestereday.

And another oddity - last night I found Coronation St recording (never watch
it or record it) - somehow it had magically appeared, and with a _series
link_ to add insult to injury! ;-)

lost that link on my box as well, luckily I caught it before we missed
an episode

I've just had a failed recording of Eastenders tonight, Wife was
watching so no problem but I've done a forced update just to be on the
safe side...

I've had the occasional one. Did about 15 recordings last week (while on
holiday) and one was marked as 'failed' with no reason given.

I expected it to be, recorded 5 episodes of a proggy(1 a day) because 1 of
them had something I wanted to watch and wasnt sure which one, but the Gods
must have been taking care of me , as the bit I wanted to watch *wasnt* on
the failed proggy but another!

Corrie (series-linked again) dropped off the recording list at some
point today. It was definitely in the list this morning, but by 19:30
this evening it had disappeared. Caught it just in time to keep Mrs.
HVB from slinging the Sky+ box out the window (probably would have
been followed by every other item cabled to it...).

What's up with the series links?!

HVB.
