Does TIVO pick up cable change?

My cable company moved one of the networks from Channel 3 to Channel 33 on
3/1/05. TIVO has not yet picked up this change so the only way I can record
programs is by a manual program for certain times on Channel 33. Will TIVO
pick this up eventually or is there something I can do now to force the
change?

Thanks for any help.

James

Get your cable companies DVR. These issues disappear. Plus it's a much
more advanced DVR.

What's so much more advanced about it?

Another top posting twit check in.

Let me count the ways the CABLE dvr is far superior to the CABLE
Tivo:

HDTV
2 tuners
dolby 5.1
no phone line required
Disk useage indicator
Free hardware + hardware upgrades
More advanced Guide interface
Integrated On-Demand

Did I Mention HD, Dolby 5.1 + 2 tuners?

That's it off the top of my head.

Tivo is like a worn out VCR compared to the Cable DVR's.

What's with all this anal compulsiveness about top posting? Is it too hard

I get regular messages from Tivo about lineup changes. Not sure why you have
not. Contact them.

I agree with you, but only when people have the sense to cut out all the
excess and just leave the few important lines to reply to. It can be very
frustrating to have to scroll down 70 lines of text, looking for the 1 new
line in the entire post. Sometimes one line at the top is the easiest way to
go. Flexibility is the key.

Are you a Harvard business school grad? That's some mighty fine
analysis.

My analysis is that for Tivo you only make a downpayment on the
hardware. The monthly fee goes to the service and paying off the
hardware.

After a few years of paying the rental fee, you'dve paid about as much as
a TiVo costs. But you don't get to keep the box...

And it's such a great box. My series 1 is in my closet. Boating season
is almost here. I can always use another storm anchor.

A standalone TiVo works even if you switch cable providers, if you go to
satellite, or if you move. Try doing that with your rented Cable Co DVR.

God what a dolt. Tivo hardware will be obsolete in a few years. Just
check with your Directv suckers. All it will be good for is a boat
anchor. The cable dvr is no different than the cable box itself. When
a better model comes along the cable company gives it to me for free.

Which is the better deal?

Usually happens automatically, but calling customer support or reporting a
lineup issue online can ensure they are aware of the issue - sometimes the
local providers make changes but fail to notify the people who maintain the
guide data when they do.

Owning or renting?
Owning is a better deal.

Mostly, cable companies just say nothing about new models being available,
and customers don't get one until the one they have breaks. This does
make it appear that cable companies are quite good at notifying customers
about new DVRs, though, because they tend to die often enough that customers
get new models quite often.

Back to the original subject of this post--TIVO fixed the channel problem a

Oh, right. Next time I go on vacation I'll be sure to buy a car

Right...

Man, Sean, your logical arguments are so stunning.

_Of course_ Kenny meant to say "in every situation, including short-term
usage". He simply left it off to be concise. The fact that the thread (and
the newsgroup) are about DVRs shouldn't be enough indication that he might
have had a more specific statement in mind.

BTW, the next time you go on vacation, _IF_ you happen to be in the market
for a car, it _WOULD_ be a better deal to buy instead of renting (assuming
shipping it back wouldn't be prohibitively expensive).

Kind of like, _IF_ you want a DVR, it's a better deal to buy instead of
renting...

You guys are such friggin Dolts. It just amazes me.

Let's see, should I buy a DVR that will be obsolete in a few years
(or in some cases a few months) in ADDITION to paying a monthly fee of
$12.95.

OR

Should I "rent" a DVR for $10 a month which will get replaced with a
new model when it also becomes obsolete.

Hmmmm, $3 less per month PLUS free hardware upgrades..?????

Geee which is the better deal?????

Are there any Harvard Business school grads on this NG who can help me
out????

The best part of an HR10-250 (DirecTv Tvo with HDTV) is not having to
deal with a Cable company.

Channel 117 isnt working? Are you on Channel 3? We'll send a tech out in
2 weeks to check your drop.

Jackie,

I have not had 1 service call to Comcast in the 7 years I've lived in
my current house.

Maybe you satelite people are used to dealing with the Sat service
people but not me.

I think that may be the worst analogy I've seen on usenet in years.

BTW zit-ass, the better deal is very much affected by what a person wants
their DVR to do. It's a very objective issue.

stupid and a waste of that persons time.

Sean's not wasting his time at all. All he wants is attention, and you just
gave it to him. Congrats.

No.

If I can save one person from making the horrible mistake of throwing
hard earned money down the Tivo rathole then I feel all my time and
effort has been worth it.

That's just the kind of guy I am.
