Broadcast Flags
I subscribe to both Comcasts Broadband Internet and Cable TV service.
Since I live in an apartment, I only have a single line coming in. Comcast installed a splitter and a line going to my TV and a second line off the splitter going to my cable modem. Initially I had problems with my Broadband Internet connection. The Comcast serviceman said the problem was the filters installed to block premium TV reception. I only subscribe to the Basic Cable TV service. The filters were removed by Comcast to fix my Broadband Internet service. What are and what is the purpose of broadcast flags. My firewall logs almost 100 blocked broadcast flags from Comcast every day. Should I allow my firewall to accept the broadcast flags from Comcast. I have a built in QAM HD tuner in my Mits TV. There have been instances when while watching TV the reception of a station has gone off the air and my TV has shut off by itself. I have to use the "System Reset" to turn my TV back on. All my channels in memory have been erased and I have to rescan to find all the lost channels. Do the blocked broadcast flags have anything to do with that. |

Far I now broadcast flags are part of HDTV signal that will not allow copyright material to be copied, the digital equivalent to Macrovision. |
