Cancelling premium channels & Sky+

Question!

If I cancel the premium channels that give me free Sky+ subscription, can I
still watch the programs I've got recorded, given that they've been recorded
from channels I've still got a subscription to?

Nope.

Sorry, misread the question!

The answer is yes, as long as you keep a valid Sky+ subscription.

Few years back, the answer was no, ie: If you recorded a game on Sky
Sports
1, then downgraded the package the next day, you would not be able to view
the game.

This ****ed a lot of people off, so it changed last year.

Technically?...The digibox IIRC would display *You are not subscribed to
view this channel* or something on those lines.
The same went for the movie channels too (If you'd a few recorded movies
left to watch but unsubscribed from the movie channels,The digibox simply
checked the signal on playback and I supposed noticed you was'nt subscribed
to movies and so would'nt play the recordings back)

It also won't playback anything it has recorded if you have the
dreaded "No satellite signal is being received" message. Great eh,
your box fries and you can't even watch anything you recorded while it
was working!

I don't think so.

AFAIK you still need a valid sub to a channel at the time of playback
in order to view. You don't need a valid sub at the time of recording
though.

You sure?

I've got something recorded from Artsworld when I used to subscribe to it
(not a freeview) and it plays back.

Dunno.... ;)

That is odd. AIUI the principle is that the encrypted MPEG2 stream is recorded
to disk. There are two receivers so you can record two programmes at once. On
playback the encrypted programme stream is decrypted in the single decoder unit
which of course requires your card. If there is no active subscription for that
channel I don't see how it does get decrypted.
