I've set it to auto-update now (it still says there are no updates though)

But still doesn't work on "five" for me when asking it to record as
DVD-ready. Hasn''t crashed but hasn't written anything to disk.

Don't know if this will help you, but my DigiTv setup sometimes hiccups
badly - ie produces a garbled picture/blank recorings - very often when
trying to view/record "five" for some odd reason - if my screen is set to
32bit. Why, I know not. Setting the screen colours to 24bit invariably
remedies the problem.

If you've not already done so why not give this a try?

I'll give it a go. I had assumed that it was the "five" GOP issue
mentioned in here recently ... but willing to try anything.
Just want to get is stable for Xmas.

It is definitely the GOP issue on five causing the problem. When I spoke to
Nebula it was too late to change the release, as this problem has only
occured recently. However, they did say they will be working on a fix.
