digital tv and communal aerial - update
Just a quick update on my reception of freeview.
I've got a quote for a new aerial to receive freeview, the freeholder of the flats is getting another quote to include DAB, FM, satellite as well as freeview. Today, though, I decided to go out and buy a Goodmans GDB3, as Argos have them @ £49.99 and I had £20 worth of Nectar points! Result is that I have excellent reception in my flat, on the communal aerial, can receive all the freeview channels I was expecting to :-) Strange my neighbour had bad reception on his freeview box. Do the boxes differ that much? Could it be the cabling to his flat is that much worse than mine? Andy - intrigued. |

Strange my neighbour had bad reception on his freeview box. Do the boxes differ that much? They can do depending on the design and age of the chipset, and if the manufacturers did a good job of combing it with a decent frontend. Could it be the cabling to his flat is that much worse than mine? Maybe, or it could be as simple as a crappy patch lead, without a meter you wouldn't know, you could try taking your box round... Strange my neighbour had bad reception on his freeview box. Do the boxes differ that much? Could it be the cabling to his flat is that much worse than mine? When I first moved into my previous house I was using the Sutton Coldfield roof aerial, and my ITV Digital Pioneer only output watchable pictures on Multiplex 1,2,A and B. It also found C but this kept breaking up. My (then) newly aquired Daewoo Setpal pulled in C with no problems, D was perfectly watchable, as was Multiplex 1 from the Nottingham transmitter. From the same aerial it was also able to "see" a multiplex from Belmont, 3 from Waltham and a further 2 from Nottingham, although in day-to-day use it ignored them as they offered no additional regional varients. (Unfortunatly the roof aerial suffered from Impulsive interference an awful lot so I ended up using a 14 element wideband jobbie vaguly pointing at Sutton Coldfield, and dispite having tyre tracks all over BBC ONE and ITV-1 Central analogue the digital was fine for most of the year (unfortunatly SDN co-channled with a distant analogue relay on the same baring which kept appearing in certain weather conditions, can't wait till I finish uni where i'll be moving to somewhere I hope to stay a few years, can finally get an aerial installed, although looking at the roof line round the city it will be pot luck as to which tx is used, Belmont, Nottingham, Waltham and Sutton Coldfield are all used on this street, Waltham is the one meant to cover the area.)
