Peterborough radio TX has collapsed

From http://tx.mb21.co.uk/gallery/peterborough.asp

"On the evening of Saturday 30-Oct-2004 there was a major fire at the
Peterborough site. As a result the mast totally collapsed, falling onto the
transmitter buildings and neighbouring fields."

Important lesson, never build the transmitter buildings actually around
the mast :) Then if there is a fire you don't loose the mast as well.

An announcement on Radio 4 around an hour ago said that "engineers are
working on the problems with reception in the Peterborough area" :)

I "could" see that mast from the window in this room. It's (was) about
10 miles north of where I live. Well I would have doen today if:
a. It was still there
and
b. If it had not been misty such that the vis was about a mile.

SWMBO complained that Radio 2 was missing. Hey ho, a quick check got a
poor signal from somewhere else.
Later she decided to use the Freeview box.

My BIL was cursing this morning. Someone else had been driving his van and
he'd assumed they'd retuned the radio so tried tuning it back in again.....
