Yes ITV 3 is showing on channel 34 and is playing an advert for the programs

What I can not see is why CH 34 when I would think that channel 9 would be
better for ALL.
BBC/FREEVIEW could get all text channels together at 50 +.
ITV would get a good channel number for the new channel which would help in
viewing numbers.
And the Children channel numbers would not look messy.

And does any one know what channel numbers on cable TV?

I know that ITV 3 is not going up on B$kyB.

9 is Teletext. 8 is free but maybe already allocated to someone.

Well you can't change existing channels as people would get annoyed. (Not
sure who, but people do get annoyed about these sort of things.)

Ch9 is already in use - Teletext.

I use Pace DTVA boxes. These have customisable User Lists. I've set up a
list for TV channels which has ITV1 on 3, ITV2 on 6 and ITV3 on 9.

Nonsense...

'Channel' numbers are of little consequence with DTTVB (Freeview).

Each of the 66 or so DTTVB services or 'channels' is transmitted with a
Logical 'Channel' Number (LCN) which your digibox uses to separate all
the multiplexed 'services' into a usable list of so called 'channels'.

The LCN is of little consequence since many if not most Digiboxes have
features whereby you can re-organise the DTTVB services or 'channels' to
suit yourself.

People will get annoyed...

Certainly confused and quite possibly annoyed. IMHO it is largely to do
with the word 'channel'.

For example.

UHF channel 53 from the Sheffield Crosspool relays digital MUltipleX 2
which includes Channel 4

Digital Channel MUX 2 consists of about 8 TV channels and 2 teletext
channels.

So the word channel is being used in at least three different contexts.

Of little consequence? Every DTT Box in the UK defaults to the LCN
channel order!

The channel names are being used more and more by people rather than
ITV1 being called Channel 3. This is more to do with Sky and Cable than
people being able to shuffle channels around on their DTT box.

Only techy people change channel numbers so they are in a different
order. The vast majority of the population use their tv to watch tv. In
the same way, most mobile phone users don't touch Outlook synchronisation.

I think ITV were probably a bit ****ed off that they're next to kiddies
tv and pay channels. They'd want their tv station nearer the LCN of
some of the most popular channels, 1-5,6,7,18,21 etc, so when people are
flicking channels, they might stop to watch some crap out-dated us drama
on ITV3. Where they're situated at the moment, they're only gonna get
people who have gone through every channel and are even desperate enough
to see whether there's something on CBBC or News24 that interests them,
(apart from the cross-channel ads they'll put on ITV1 & ITV2).
