ABC1 and DigiTV

I've been trying to record stuff from ABC1 over the last week and I'm
having a couple of problems.

When I set up DigiTV to record in DVD format, about a third of the
screem image is green with the main picture squeezed into the remining
two thirds. When recording in "normal" mode it's fine.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I recorded moonlighting the other day and the recording was unwatchable
until converted to DVD format where it was 1/3 green as you describe.
I've recorded 8 simple rules and moonlighting a few times and it only
happened the once.

i assumed it would be because all the old tv shows they transmit would
be 4:3.

No, this is within a 4:3 frame. The picture is squeezed into the left
2/3 and the right 1/3 is green.

I switched back to the normal mode and it now seems to be fine. They
also seem to have sorted out timing. The first few days recordings were
all cut off before the end but yesterday and today seem OK.

abc1 is being broadcast in SATV format ie 544x576, which makes it a
pain to burn recorded files to DVD. TMPENG dvd author rejects the
files as non DVD compliant when I try to import them :-(

Surely it has to be better to record the broadcast as is, and backup
directly to DVD in that format ... then use a DVD player which understands
that format?

Its channel 15 on freeview (unless you're in wales, apparently). It runs
from 6am to 6pm and has re-runs of US stuff like elen, 8 simple rules,
home improvement, moonlighting, geena davis, etc

The first new non-shopping TV channel on Freeview that actually
broadcasts a variety of programmes.

Not my choice but it is daytime only and I rarely watch TV during the
day unless it is cricket.

I had assumed that ITV3 was going to take over when ABC1 signed off at
6:00 PM but the received wisdom suggests this is not the case.

If so we have a vacant slot on Mux A after 18:00 hours
