OT-ish: Best price for Pace twin right now?
 

As header..... now looks worth divulging into given reduced price and
software updates.

Best price I've seen is £176.49

Whats the chance of picking up a box with the latest software? If slim will
it be possible to pick up the latest software OTA or via serial given that
the OTA updates have already been broadcast.

A new box: zero chance
If you get one on ebay it might be more up to date.

If you can get it to you before monday, an update is currently being
broadcast. Otherwise it is repeated about once a month. You can't update
by serial.

I got one from Pace recently with the original software, I did not have
any problems with it, except there was no digital text and the EPG is
very s-l-o-w. Other than that the original software is not bad, waiting
a few weeks for the update is not a problem.

I couldn't find the relevant page on the Pace site to buy direct.

I got one from Pace recently with the original software, I did not have
any problems with it, except there was no digital text and the EPG is very
s-l-o-w.

Has the EPG performance been improved in the latest software updates?

It's easy to get a distorted view of things if you haven't actually got one
of these boxes yet. I have made some posts myself about the box, but
generally the box is very useable and works much (almost all) of the time.
The Pace still does stuff the others don't. The EPG is semi-slow but it's
'OK' and it works comparably to my Sony IDTV. The EPG improved with an
update a short while back compared to the poster who was running on the
original software. Even though I've had a moan I wouldn't go back to a VCR
given the choice. It's a shame that the Pace doesn't easily take a 3.5 in
drive as the 2.5's are poor value in comparison. If I had a major moan
about the Twin it would be the stupid disc space for only 10 hours but I
guess the drives were even dearer when they were released.

If I didn't have a Twin I'd be interested in maybe a Fusion 200 but even
that could be flawed.

Well I'm gonna dump my Humax (and possibly my Sony) in favour of the Pace so
I hope it at least lives up to it's standards of EPG. The Sony is
particularly good in this respect. The disc space is a bit of a worry and am
not sure what the biggest drive available is in 2.5" or the price.

Regarding the HD and it's recording ability's will the Pace allow viewing of
program rather than recording while recording? And how is the features on a
recording, does it allow you to FAST fwd or reverse or jump to any time
within the recording?

Lastly does the Pace use software overlay of the viewed channel on ALL it's
menu's....aka Sony.

I think 80Gb is about max. available from around £90

Well I have a Sony IDTV...it isn't perfect. There are times when it is
better than the Pace...particularly nice to have a downsized tv picture in
the EPG to continue viewing, but sometimes the Pace is better with it's
easier navigation.

Hmmm...maybe it's a bit early but I'm lost here. You can playback on a Pace
before the end of recording. You can watch a channel whilst recording
another channel. You can have a 'pause live tv mode' but you can't record a
channel and use 'pause live tv' on another channel at the same time. You
can jump back and forth through a program continuously or steps, you can add
bookmarks. The one bit I don't think you can do (before adding a bookmark
on first viewing) is walk in and say 'start playing at 20m 45 secs into the
programme'. There is a 'resume' feature if you stop watching and want to
come back later. All I'd say it's not as completely reliable as a good vcr.
With one of those I'm sure we have all missed the odd programme due to
mistaken programming or a change of schedule. With the Pace, for me, there
have been a few lost recordings purely down to hardware issues but 'most'
(nearly all I guess) work out fine. At the end of the day, it's only a tv
programme after all. Far more important issues in the world of course for
most of us.

If you mean does it lose the programme to look at things like the menu and
set timers etc. yes, I think it does. I'm not sure if you still get the
sound...can't remember!

Fast forward at up to 64x normal speed.

No I mean watch the actual broadcasted program on that channel rather than
watching the recording as it records of the broadcasted program, like a
monitor sw on a cassette deck. The Humax only lets you watch the recording
in progress as it records rather than the live broadcast. Luckily the
quality difference appears of such small insignificance.

Don't be silly - keep them all - you can daisy chain them!

Look ABC1 and ITV3 are coming out soon and you may need to record a number
of things at the same time.

I need another PVR but not sure what to get - remote control issues stop me
getting another Twin as they would clash!!!!!!

And in any case, because the Pace's HD records the incoming signal with
no compression at all, the two are indistinguishable, so it's
irrelevant.

It's much faster than it was with the original software. Occasionally
you still have to wait a minute for it to fill up.

Big as you like, I think, I've heard of several people putting 60GB ones
