Bush DV3 freeview adaptor snags - digital newbie

Hi.

Hi folks.

I've recently moved into digital TV reception with a Bush DV3 box from
Tesco's.

The first one had to go back as the unit kept ceasing to respond to
commands from the remote until it was switched off and then back on.
Sometimes when changing channel, the program details would appear but
no picture or sound, despite the signal strength being adequate (about
half-way up the on-screen scale).

Eventually, the unit ceased to function entirely, even when switched
off and back on.

I replaced the box with an identical one which is better but still
occasionally refuses to respond to the remote and also sometimes
displays the blank screen mentioned before.

Is this what I can expect from any other box, or could it be that this
particular model's a bit of a duffer?

Although I live in an area where Freeview is, in theory, not
available, I find reception with my signal booster perfect when the
box is behaving.

Thanks in advance.

T.

Does the manual actually say this is adequate?
If so it's unusual. Most I have seen say you need it up to 95% before
reception is at all reliable.

The manual makes absolutely no reference at all to signal strength.
But even when the signal level comes in only at the lower end of the
scale, both sound and picture are fine. The occasional absence of
sound and picture seems unrelated to the signal strength. It all comes
back again on rebooting the box.

I bought one for my Aunt back in June (it came from Argos).
It's perfectly reliable, gives a solid picture & sound on all channels &
works perfectly, so it looks like you have got two from a bad batch,
take it back.
Regards Mike.

Thanks. I thought someone might say that. Back it goes.

No, that's not generally true. The variety of digiboxes all have
different ways of displaying the signal strength. My pace twin has
signal strength of around 30% and works perfectly. I had a panasonic
TUCT20 which showed about 60% on the same aerial and also worked mostly
OK.

I've just bought one from Tesco too, and have exactly the same
symptoms you've described....
