Blu-ray group mandates Microsoft codec for BD-ROM
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/09...-ray_ms_codec/ DVD Forum mandates Microsoft for HD disc spec http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/03...tes_microsoft/ So it doesn't matter whether HD-DVD or Blu-ray wins, we'll still be stuck with microsoft! Given that Blu-ray has a higher capacity and is already backed by a studio (Columbia Tristar - because its owned by Sony) what chance now for HD-DVD? |

Micro$oft isn't by any means the best in this area. I agree they're good but they're only in the position they are because of being the richest company and they like to be anti-competitive and spend a few cents in court to tell the judge to shut up. I vote for the Xvid with people who really know they're stuff and not some company that just wants some cash at the end of the day. |

Both specs now have H.264/AVC and WMV9 as standard, so it doesn't necessarily mean discs will use WMV9. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info DAB sounds worse than FM, Freeview, digital satellite, cable and broadband internet radio |
