SCART switch box recommendations?
Can anyone recommend a good SCART switch box? My requirements are as
follows. 3+ signal sources (Freeview box, DVD player and VCR) 1 TV output (older Sony, just a single SCART) Record to VCR capability (from Freeview required) No "cross-talk" between sources - see below. On my current 2-way switch box I've had problems where the composite from the DVD always made it to the VCR. This somehow "nobbled" the VCR output though I managed to solve this by cutting a track in the box. Whether this was macrovision or straight interference, I don't know, and to be honest don't really care since I've fixed it! I have to be able to switch RGB and composite since the VCR and FReeview (yes it was cheap) is composite only whilst the DVD is RGB. I only want to be able to record from the Freeview box and this will probably only occur if I'm not watching the Freeview box at the same time. So, this doesn't sound like a too taxing list but there is a lot of crap out there. Can someone recommend a good switch box? Thanks, Paul DS -- Please remove the "x-" if replying to sender. |
I bought a fairly crappy 3-to-1 SCART switch at Comet (Portsmouth)(19.99
or 29.99, can't recall which but it was probably overpriced anyway!) but it works fine with a Freeview box, kids video game and DVD player. There's three switches to select A, B or C input through to the TV and more independent switches to control what's routed through to the VCR for recording. L3K |

L3K Maplin do two 3 to 1 at about £9 and £20. Also Argos do several in the £9 to £10 region. All manual. (I use two of them with a couple of self-doctored splitter boxes; one unit for switching/ setting source to TV, the other for switching/ setting source to VCR. Could do much better now, with remote control, but suited me a or so year ago. Switches DVD, FreeView and old analogue Sat to TV/ VCR.) Nick |
