DAEWOO DS608P

Our local Tesco has loads of these at I think £59.84, two big piles in
different parts of the store.
That's Tesco in Wrexham, North Wales.
These are Setpal Freeview boxes.
Just if anyone's interested.
I don't work for Tesco BTW.
Regards Mike.

I noted they have the Philips now reduced to £69 yesturday.

I bought the Philips in a price match a few weeks ago at this price with
other dealer at a high street shop. It is a better deal for me as it has
digital audio and s-video out ideal for my AV amplifier, plus 2 scarts.
Works well.

That all depends. Being in a poor signal area, I also have a Setpal, but, if
David doesn't have a reception problem and the Philips has the features he
wants, why is that a "big mistake"?

My parants got one, not reallt impressed with it.
The picture is dull and lifeless, no timer and only one scart socket, I
think they are taking it back this weekend.

The box has multiple (10 ) timers.

If they are complaining about dull and lifeless pictures then they will
either be equally unimpressed with all other boxes or perhaps the fault
lies elsewhere. My 608 produces sharp clear and vibrant pictures.

The picture is dull and lifeless,

If via RGB then the latest software update allows the brightness to be
increased.

IIRC when I used mine I found the rf (or was it composite ?) output to
be brighter, (kids have it now so not sure).

The ability to increase the RGB level was available in older software
versions but via the engineering screens.

On older software versions (pre build 0126) the engineering screens can
be found:

On the remote press Status then Red Green Yellow Blue in that order

The key cycles through the screens

Press Status to get out of the screens.

On the latest software build the engineering screens can be found:

Status, Select, Text, Text, Select

Over the air software updates for Setpal boxes updates are usually every
4 to 8 weeks.

My Grundig got a pretty good picture for digital, but the Daewoo is
certainly not on par with my Grundig.
As for the timers, I looked all thought menus and there is certainly no
timer.

Composite is not very good at all, I have not even tried RF.
