TUTV Card Arrives

The card arrived in this morning's post.

It cannot be used immediately because the software update would appear only
to run at night, so the card must be left in the slot and the box left on
standby.

One mistake that I made...for old Philips box users, the gold part of the
card must point upwards!

Think we should leave the STB ON as opposed to Standby overnight. Little
confusion here!

No confusion at my end. The instructions clearly state "on standby", though
it states that it must be left on one of two channels! Perhaps the card
forces the decoder on, or the update can be done whilst on standby?

Definately should be left ON. Apparently there is an insert in the later
cards they have been sending out with a note stating the mistake.

Hi John,
We must have different instructions!!
The first green inst box (step 8) says," ..... However you must leave your
stb ON overnight on a TopUp channel."
Step 9 says"..... Your stb will automatically switch to Standby." (I am
aware of Step 6 but understand that it has a typo.
Regards
Noel

It make more sense leaving it on.

How did that error creep through?

I had a corrigenda saying leave on. I left On and have three updated
boxes. Watched some E4 and UK Style tonight - what tripe! Bought it
for TCM, UK Gold and Discovery.

ExperiMentor March 30th 04 10:07 PM

The instructions say:

Steps 1-4: Store the new channels
5: tune to Discovery (27) or TCM (25)
6: Switch to Standby
7: Insert card (note which way up according to box brand)
8-11: leave overnight for update
12: swich box on

I thought this was incorrect, and my box did NOT update over last night.

Today, I left it switched ON over the daytime, tuned to Discovery (27).

The box successfully updated during daytime, and by this evening I now see a
message on UK Gold (17) saying "successfully updated".

It also says "leave switched on tuned to TCM (25) for a second night just to
make sure the update worked properly.

For interest and to answer previous questions/assrtions on he

1. The Menus have not updated (they all still say "OnDigital"). I guess if
these could have been updated over thge air, they would have been changed to
"ITV digital" several years ago.

2. The "Smartcard data" changes from "TopUpTV expires 01 Jan 90" to "TopUpTV
expires 30Apr04" when the update takes place.

And now to try ELVIS ...

Box must be left on watching ch25 not in standby -and you can do it
without a card.
