needed: a 'fault' DVD
It would be very useful to have a DVD showing various fault conditions for
analogue and digital TV reception. Still photographs don't really do the job because of the dynamic nature of many fault conditions. Bill http://www.wrightsaerials.tv/index.html |
It would need a "TV Guru" to set up some sort of rig to simulate the faults.
But we don't know anyone like that, do we children? "Bill" wrote in message ... It would be very useful to have a DVD showing various fault conditions for analogue and digital TV reception. Can you not carry a small digital video camera around with you, and make little movies as you discover faults? I think a few of the digital cameras that take still images will also do short movies of a few minutes, perhaps that would do? Then you could download them, and put them on your website or burn them onto a DVD. All fairly straightforward, I'd imagine, providing you've got the time ;) You could also have some moving pictures of rogue-installed aerials swaying in the breeze for your site. Ian |

little movies as you discover faults? I don't think that would give anything like the quality needed, and it would introduce a lot of unwanted variables -- the programme material, the TV set, the ambient lighting, and so forth. I think this needs doing in 'laboratory' conditions. You could also have some moving pictures of rogue-installed aerials swaying in the breeze for your site. This is a delightful idea, and will provide a new interest in my sad obsessive anorak-clad so-called life. Bill http://www.wrightsaerials.tv/index.html |
That made me think of the old floppy 45s that used to come with
Practical Wireless in the 'sixties. They simulated all the possible audio faults you were likely to get, but the most realistic one was that of an eccentric, creased, scratchy, floppy 45 slipping on the turntable mat. The Private Eye ones were the best. I've still got one of John Wells as Arthur Negus discussing 'Edmundo Varicosi', the Renaissance craftsman responsible for furniture with 'fluted legs'.
