... Yes, it seems I have 3.105 as well. If you give me your e-mail address, I'll send you the executable - I think that's the only thing that changed - one of the intermediate beta upgrades was only a .exe change. Copy it ontop of what you already have. You'll need to e-mail me at peter(at)petersheppard(dot)com (replace (at) with @ and (dot) with . ). Thanks for that offer Peter, was very kind of you. As you'll see from my previous message I managed to download it last night before I read your posting, so at least I have the latest version now. No sign of the live rewind feature though! Also it's crashing everytime it tries to download the latest EPG data, so I'm not too happy with it. Geoff. |
Geoff,
You DEFINITELY have something wrong with your Windows XP installation. I am running 3.104 without any problems at all. It accesses the EPG when it starts & then it's stable. I leave it on most of the day without problems. I suggest that you roll XP back to a restore point before you installed the Nebby then install the latest version again from scratch. When it installs check the resources that the Nebby card & your other devices are using. If there is sharing of IRQs try moving the Nebby to another PCI slot. Also enter ctrl-i to bring up diagnostic mode & look at the error counters. If you see the error counters going up then you have a hardware problem. Write the Nebula tech support & explain in detail what you are seeing. They are very helpful. If it still crashes note what errors are reported in Task Manager & follow up via Google. Also, make sure that XP is at SP1a & that your device drivers, particularly the video card, are up to date. Believe me, & what other posters are telling you. There's nothing wrong with the DigTV software. In article , Geoff writes Well I've been able to download the latest version now, and there is no live rewind feature so I'm not sure what that was all about? I'm actually pretty annoyed with this software. I've spent hours today uninstalling and reinstalling it due to all sorts of problems with it crashing. Whenever there is a slight problem with either downloading an update or EPG data (and there have been problems with both those all day), it just freezes up and you have to cntl-alt-del and re-load it. Also quite often it's crashed when using the live pause feature for no apparent reason. Has anyone else had such problems with this software please? Should I downgrade to an older version maybe? Cheers, Geoff. -- Keith Bailey |

... It looks as though any time it accesses the internet it causes you problems. Are you sure the ports etc aren't being blocked? Try disabling all firewalls etc completely including hardware router ones. I thought that too so I tried unlocking my firewall but it still didn't work, and also there wasn't even an entry in the firewall logs for it. However, there was an entry for Proximatron, which is a local proxy server program I use as a pop-up blocker. It turns out that the DigiTV software connects to the Nebula site for EPG data via port 80, and uses the Internet settings I have set in Explorer to make all traffic go via Proximatron. So, I've put an exception 'rule' (or whatever you call it) in my Explorer settings so that it doesn't go via Proximatron. My firewall logs now show DigiTV trying to connect, so I let that through. However, it still isn't connecting very well and only gets some of the EPG data before crashing. I can't see what else it can be my end so I think Nebula's servers are a bit screwed up to be honest, and maybe after their Christmas break they'll sort it out. Cheers, Geoff. |

I suggest that you roll XP back to a restore point before you installed the Nebby then install the latest version again from scratch. I haven't got any recent restore points thanks to a virus I had a short time ago, and I forgot to take another restore point. It wasn't a serious virus and hasn't caused any long-term problems. I've just written another post in this thread about how it's connecting via port 80 etc., and how I've done all I can to solve the problem my end. There's nothing else wrong with my XP installation that could be causing this. Most of the crashes, as someone else in this thread suggested, are only happening when the software attempts to access the Internet. The rest of the time it's been fine, apart from once-But who knows why that once was. Maybe it was trying to access the Internet at the same time, but I didn't look into it in detail at the time. Believe me, & what other posters are telling you. There's nothing wrong with the DigTV software. Well nobody else has said that to me but I accept what you're saying. I am 100% sure the problem isn't my end. I haven't gone into all the details of what's happened because it would bore everyone reading this group and it isn't really neccesary, but I assure you I've done a lot to ensure the problem isn't with my system. Everything else is working fine, drivers are up to date, Internet access is good, hardware is all modern with latest stable drivers. I DO like the Nabula software and it is working well as long as I don't let it try to connect to the Internet. It isn't connecting to Nebula, and even a ping of their EPG server is getting a 'not found' result. It seems that when the software cannot get a connection, it crashes, and that can only mean some sort of bug in the software. Now I think of it, I remember a few months ago my ISP changed the range of IP addresses I could be allocated each time I connected to the Net, and some companies blocked that range because it used to be used for something else. All I remember is that the addresses started with 80 and according to my firewall the Nebula server IP starts with 80! So, I may need to send it via an external proxy. That will be a problem though because the data won't be up to date. Hmmm....I'll have to look into this and see if that's what the problem is. It still doesn't change what I said though, that when it cannot connect, it crashes, and that's a bug that needs resolving. Thanks for your input, Geoff. |

If http://www.nebula-electronics.com isn't reachable (as it isn't now - 504 Gateway Timeout), DigiTV either stops responding for about a minute on startup and then works OK, or just stops responding completely. I can easily prove this by disabling access to the Internet to DigiTV with my firewall - the application then starts up fine. This bug was present in a previous version but Nebula fixed it - looks like it has resurfaced. Geoff, let me know if you will be reporting this to Nebula - otherwise I will do so. Cheers and Merry Christmas! -- Steven Remove NOSPAM to reply directly - thanks. |

Steven, I HAD written to them but today the email was bounced! Oh dear, they are really having problems it seems and nobody there to fix them. :( Hi Geoff, The website's back up again now and by a strange coincidence(!) my DigiTV is starting up perfectly again - how about yours? As I see it the EPG updates come from www.nebepg.co.uk but DigiTV checks for program updates on www.nebula-electronics.com. If this website is down DigiTV stops responding on startup and the 'check for updates' button doesn't get any response (if it is working it tells me my software is up-to-date). Easy way to solve then would be to untick the box relating to automatic updates while offline (for the meantime). Strange that the e-mail bounced, I assume you're using [email protected] ? The address is on http://www.nebula-electronics.com/support/support.asp - don't want them to get spammed more than necessary so I won't publish it here! Don't expect any response before 2nd Jan though as the website says they're on holiday until then. -- Steven Remove NOSPAM to reply directly - thanks. |

Hi Steven, Yep mine seems to work now and I can get to their website too. Yes I did use the address you quoted (after searching for a while in cached Google pages to find it seeing as their site was down!). I won't bother re-sending the email now as things seem to be working now, but there are some other bugs people in another thread are discussing that I may write to them about soon, but I'll wait to see how permanant they are before bugging them. I have some testing to do later of the timers, to see if they're still going to play silly games with me, and I'll see how that goes. Geoff. |
