Freeview price level

Just got our weekly junk mail through the letterbox.
Big W leaflet has Sagem at £59-99
Argos has the at £59-99
So to me looks as if this price level could be general.

(Argos have the Pure Evoke-1 DAB at £89-99, Goodmans GR80 DAB/FM at £89-99
and Intempo PG-01 DAB/FM at £119-99. Anyone seen or heard the Goodmans?
Is it truely portable, ie does it use batteries?)

The Sagem box is piled high and sold at £59.99 in my local Safeway.
I bought one, and it's much better than my old Philips OnDigital
box. Channel changes are now reasonably quick, even when switching
between muxes. (The Philips was very slow at this.)

Comet have the Evoke-1 at 89.99. Instead, I bought a Roberts Gemini-3
for £139.99 instead. (It has FM as well as DAB.) I'm fairly
disappointed with its horrendous lower-mid cabinet resonance, which
seems to renders speech unintelligible in the presence of moderate
ambient noise.

Just been reading the latest Electronics Weekly. Seems there are two DAB
chip sets around. One made by Texas Instruments - in partnership with
Radioscape who make the receiver - is used by Roberts Radio, Morphy
Richards, Hitachi, and Cambridge Audio (as in Richer Sounds,) the other by
Frontier is used by Bush, Grundig, Goodmans, and Pure.

Will be interesting to see how the golden-earred brigade manage to make
differences of the manufacturers using the same chip set!

I noticed that with mine, but I'm not sure it's *all* resonance. It does
seem to have a mid-range hump in speaker amp's response, that isn't there in
the phone or line outputs. The treble and bass controls are nice to have,
but can't compensate. As soon as the guarantee has worn off I'll be inside
it to see if it can be improved.
It is extremely well made though, compared with the Evoke with its nasty
sharp corners.

You appear to be talking about DAB digital radio receivers, not Freeview Set
Top Boxes.
What's the best deal for a SetPal (Daewoo or Labgear) box?
Mike.

No I know the difference.
Thanks for your interest, I will clarify for you, the leaflets only list the
Sagem and Bush Freeview set top boxes, so I can't comment on other makes of
Freeview box.
In my humble view the major shops/supermarkets will all have one of thier
models/makes at £59-99 to equal Argos and Big W. So if you require a
particular make I sugest you look around, I got my Daewoo at Safeway and
I've seen them at Tesco, maybe you could check them out first.

I then went OT with further comment on the leaflets onto the DAB recievers,
please note I did put this within brackets. I rather like the idea of the
addition of FM and the price of the Goodmans one at £80 is of interest hence
my question on it.
