Bush 6690D Connectivity
 

I have a Bush 6690D integrated digital TV that's connected to a Bush
model 807 VCR and I've been using OnDigital / Freeview quite happily
for a couple of years. I'm thinking of buying a cheap(ish) DVD player
this Christmas but I'm not sure of the connectivity issues I need to
address.

The aerial coax goes into the TV's ANT IN socket; a coax leads from
the TV's RF OUT to the VCR's RF IN; and another coax leads from the
VCR's RF OUT to the TV's RF IN.

The TV and VCR are also connected via a special scart lead that not
only plugs into each of the device's scart sockets, but also has three
phono connections to the TV's digital output sockets (white, red and
yellow).

These connections let me do everything I want, play back tapes via the
scart lead; record any analogue channel at any time; and record any
digital channel if the TV is either showing that channel or timed to
be on.

This ties up all of the RF and scart sockets on both devices, but the
TV has three more AV input sockets (white, red and yellow) accessible
in a small hinged side panel on the right hand side of the cabinet. I
can connect a digital camera to the yellow socket to view pictures in
the camera's memory, I find this quite a useful feature.

Looking at the cheap DVD players that have appeared in the shops
recently, I can't help but notice that they only have a single scart
socket, just like my TV and VCR. Which makes me wonder how I'd
connect the three devices together should I buy one of these DVD
players. Is it as simple as investing in a scart switch ?

Your problem is simplified by the fact that the Bush 6690D doesn't
have RGB enabled on its SCART, so there's no pressing reason to
connect your DVD player there.

You've two real options:
- buy a SCART switch box (manual ones start at a tad under GBP10) and
share the SCART socket between your VCR and DVD player. This is what I
used to do with my 6690D.
- use the AV2 phono sockets for your DVD player and unpludg them when
you want to use your digital camera. This is untidy, and imposes some
wear on your phono sockets, but doesn't require any extra black boxes.

The choice is yours.

I just took delivery of a Toshibs SD330e DVD player, connected its
single scart socket up to the tv's single scart socket, and set the
Toshiba's video out option to RGB. The tv's tv standard was already
set to RGB (when the other device was the vcr), and everything appears
to be working OK. Unless I'm missing something, it looks like RGB is
actually enabled on the tv's scart.

Now I need to buy a scart switch.

The scart is composite video
RGB is only available on the internal scart (connected to the On
Digital box)
Although you enabled RGB, composite video is still produced from your
DVD player.
