Heat production and DLP TVs

I have a Samsung HLN4365W (or HLN437W, I think they're the same) 43" TV.

It's in a recess in the end wall of my family room. The recess was built for
it, with what I thought was adequate surrounding air space (2" around the
TV, 6-9" behind it).

I seem to be having problems with the lamp. When the TV is switched off
after several hours use, it either refuses to switch on again, clicking on
and off after every 30 second or so with sound but no picture; or there is a
long, "dim" phase where the picture slowly comes up to the proper
brightness.

I suppose this could be a faulty lamp, or the TV could be overheating. I've
put my hand behind the set and it doesn't seem any hotter than the room
temperature.

Any suggestions on how I can check this out? I could take it back to the
store but it would be a major pain.

George
