New install and signal strength???

This is largely irrelevant. 25% is unusually low though and may
indicate a cable problem.

The other meter for signal quality, was showing at 50%.....

This isn't too good but the reading does vary from box to box. If you
get pixellation in moderate rain then get the installer back.

Ive just had a BSB dish installed, which was pretty much done as a
rush job as the guy didnt arrive until 8.30pm!!!!

After he had gone, I had a browse with the remote to the singal
strength menu.

Whilst there are no current viewing problems, it has to be said the
weather is good with clear skies. The signal strength meter was only
on about a quarter! I appreciate that this will vary according to your
location, but I am in Kent - so as near to the footprint centre as I
can get!

Should I be concerned about the lack of strength and expect to lose
channels in heavy rain etc?

I would obviously prefer to get them back now rather than later if it
is something to be concerned about!

Both these readings are low. The signal strength is largely irrelevant (or at
least inaccurate) but signal quality should be more than 75%.

Simulate heavy rain by using the tea-towel trick. Lay a damp tea-towel over half
the dish. If your picture breaks up then get the installer back.

Only moderate?? Ive never had any pixelation on my old 1.2m channel
master!

A minidish won't match that.

Thanks for the replies.

I did ring sky before posting to hear what they had to say! Basically
they suggested if it isnt pixelating now, then it isnt an issue. I
would agree to a certain extent - but you have to factor the point
that it is good conditions at this time. Also the fact of my location,
I really did expect a stonger signal than someone "up north".

If only we could have rain now!!!!!

I'll give the tea towel trick a go;-)

Next time it rains give Sky a call & tell them that the picture is freezing &
breaking up. Then you can get the installer back to do the job that he should
have done properly in the first place.

Put the damp tea towel over the LNB as opposed to trying to cover half the
dish with it.

you paid for a proper installation i assume, and the percentages for sig
quality are not good enough, gif you are unhappy get the installer back and
tell him to do it properly, to get a good sig quality reading should only
take him a few mins, else just get up n do it yoursef, its easy enough even
without a meter.

then again I have a small minidish installed by self without a meter here in
ireland and from what ive been told by installers it is too small to work
here but it does... and only pixelates in the heaviest of rain so seriously
doubt you will have any problems...
