Sky Warranty Companies

Evenin'

I've recently had a couple of calls from Sky Warranty Servicesor something
like that asking if I want to take out a years Insurance for 69 quid as my
sky box is now out of warranty (well it is 6 yrs old !!).

Well........I'm afraid I got a bit 'uppity' with them,

..
1. I said to them that if it goes wrong, then I'll just call out sky who'll
fix it all-in for £65 - "Oh no", says He "You'll have to pay parts and
labour on top of that callout fee"
(Lying w***ker - and I told him so)

2. Because I've registered with the TPS and shouldn't get these calls -
where do they get their info (Sky ?)

Just beware of these charlatans
(who knows - maybe the service is good ??).

Cheers

Graham

It seems that Sky have sold your details to a third party company in
order for that company to lie and cheat you into buying something that
you don't need. How many people on limited means will have been taken
in by this scam? This is really rather low.
Just about sums Sky up, really.

I would like to see all phone sales calls totally banned. Along with
all phone numbers that don't cost a normal geographical rate, or less.
None of these are ever in the consumer's interest.

Steer clear of the "Sky Extended Warranty", I had it the first year it was
introduced and the service I got was very poor, the engineers were not from
Sky but from a local company whose service was well below acceptable levels
and the quality of work performed was poor at best, their replacement boxes
were just as faulty as my own.

I don't entirely agree - I give out my 0871 number to all sorts of scum
- get lots of calls on it which play a 30 second announcement and then
allow them to leave a message. It costs them more than it costs me.

Actually this isn't a bad idea. I could start one of these £1.50 a
minute numbers and give it out to shops and put it on forms.
This would be a worthwhile change from the rather boring false number
I currently give whenever asked for one. I also systematically give
false job information and false personal details such as age, marital
status, sex etc. I also put down "Jedi" for my religion.

a) Just put the phone down. You don't owe them any politeness.

b) Register with the Telephone Preference Service:
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/
This should prevent you getting unsolicited marketing calls.

As I said, I am and it didn't.

I am and it works pretty well. The thing to do with any stray calls is to
ask them if they have heard of TPS - this has, so far, got them all to vanish
immediately but my next intended question would be to ask them for their
company name and address so I can report them!

"Sky Insurance" is perhaps trickier. Sky have a right to phone about the
service as you are a customer of theirs. "Sky Insurance" (despite how
they announce themselves) is, I believe, another company.

You can't get one of those numbers without permission from ICSTIS. And
giving it out to other people without a cost warning would be a
serious breach of the codes under which you were issued such a number,
leaving you liable to hefty fines.
